Important oil question

ok i went to the dealer today to get some oil for my 450.....they gave me HP4 10W-40 oil and for the tranny he gave me HP trans oil SAE 80W/85W but on the back of the bottle it says for use of 2-stroke engine only.......is there 2 kinds and he gave me the wrong one or is it the right kind?

It's the right kind. Check your owners manual out for the tranny oil recommendations and it is listed. I use the same oil in mine. That is some really good chit! I also run that same oil in my 250R.

alright cool.....i just wanted to make sure......do you know if the oil filter is the same as the crf450? do you use the honda oil filter?

That I am not sure of. I bought the Honda filter though.

Yeah there the same, if not the dealer has sold me the wrong ones. I have changed my oil a half dozen times. The filter fit on the housing well enough, so I can't see a problem.

one more thing.....how far do you guys fill the crankcase side up....just to the H or a little below it......mine was just at the H after i started it up for 5min and i rode it around for maybe 2min and now it takes up the whole window.....did i do too much? or will it be ok?

i fill mine up to how much it says on the case.

Well when i did my first oil change, i filled it up to the high mark then started it up. After not even a minute or two i looked down and there was nothing in the window so i shut it off. I had a smoke then filled it up to just below the H. Now after riding it and letting it cool down for about 5 minutes it right at the H.

so would you say its bad if my whole window is filled up.....or will i be able to ride like that.........or should i drain a little bit?

if you just can see the top of the oil move around by the h mark while shaking the quad a little it should be fine, otherwise drain a small amount.
