I have a 99 400ex which I am happy with other than the power.
I am debating to sell and buya Raptor or keep it and modify it. I dont want to spend a ton of money. What mods will at leat make it as fast as a stock Raptor. I like the 400 alot since we do aolt of woods riding and I heard the Raptor is rather high sided.

Dont buy a craptor you will be mad at yourself. Put a 416 kiit in it with an xr400 cam and port and polish that will do ya. Or wait till new honda comes out!!

Since I have both, I'll give you my opinion. The EX is better in every way except for the power. In drag races between my Raptor and my EX, the Raptor wins. But not by as much as you'd think. They are pretty even up till 4th. gear when the Raptor just steadily pulls away.
If you are happy with your EX. I'd say just modify it. It will be cheaper for you in the long run. My Buddy has a wicked 440EX that he built for about $1500.00. I have yet to race him yet with my Raptor, but I wouldn't be surprised if he beats me. He already stuffed one of our buddy's modded Banshee's.

Thank you RAPTORAZ. That is the most mature response I think I have ever heard.

My friend has a stock Raptor, and while the thing is wicked fast, I don't care for the handling. It just feels too narrow. With the mods I have below, I can run even with him in a drag race (and he weighs 100 lbs less than me). For fast trail riding we always ran together. All of my performance mods have cost about 900 bucks, so I am just over what you'd pay for a stock raptor, & I don't have to get wider a-arms or a wider axle. Parts are cheaper for a 400, and there is more of a selection (although that will not be the case in a couple of years). The Raptor is an awsome machine, but pound for pound & dollar for dollar for dollar, I think the ex is better (& yes I have a little bias :D ). If you do get a Raptor, make sure to get an 02, so you don't have to worry about the tranny & axle problems of the 01.

For less than $1000,,you can build up your motor to stay up with a raptor..

I think Raptorz hit it right on the nose.

Check out the following 2 tests on the popular sport atv's.

Funny thing is in the timed laps the best rider's times on the slowest machine(ds650) are faster than the other riders times on the faster machines.

So keep the honda and get the better rider :D

Also keep in mind the price of the other machines as well.
