Does any one know if any company makes a big bore kit for an older (1987) kx 250 engine? This is the new power plant for my 87tecate4. I wanted to go newer(2001 or so) but my dad bought the whole kx for $100.00 so I can't argue. I told ya he is more excited about the tecate than I am!!! what do you say to a 52 year old KAW-BOY? Gotta love him...He's my Dad
Any way I've had work done by L.A. sleeve and I was totally impressed. Are there any other good companies I should contact?

I hadn't thought about how big to go. I want an awsome bottom end and mid range, I only ride in the top end when I'm on a track(and thats not real often!) the kicker is it has to run on PUMP GAS I'm tired of triing to find race gas when the local bike shop is out.
I guess about a 330cc but thats open to my options. Can you tell me some places to contact?

I wouldn't go that big, your already going to have major vibration problems, a 330 kit will make it worse! Just bore it enough to clean up the cylinder.

You wouldn't wanna trade a kit for a Garret ball bearing turbo would ya? :D

 Vibration problems??? because I'm using a kx engine on a quad? If you have a big bore kit installed it doesn't get balanced? fill me in This is new territory for me

the KX engine has no counter ballancer like a quad motor. For some reason the vibration gets amplified in quad frames.

Now how about that turbo :D (97 Powerstroke):D

Yah I had here that! what if I found a tecate engine? then would it be a good idea? what about a weighted flywheel?

The tecate engine would be the better choice. A flywheel wheight may help but it won't cure it. Yes, you can get bigbore kits for Tecate's too. William Yokley raced a KX250 motored Roll Chassis quad for a couple years, he said it was ridable but after a 2 hour race his hands would be numb.

If I get a tecate engine can you give me advice on how and where to have it built for woods/trail riding? I built my rm250 after spending $750.00 on the top end at l.a.sleeve. They did a great job and with a stock bore plus lots of mods it felt like you were on a 500cc not a 250. I built it for mx not woods. I would like to save alittle $ but I will pay it if the quality is there. I like to do it right the 1st time and have a reliable machine! I had to run race fuel in my RM, no choice! it would barely rev on pump gas. The novellty wears off real quick!!! I want to run on 92 octain not 116. I absolutly loved the big power but I couldn't ride with a group for long because I couldn't fuel up at the gas stations, I couldn't carry spare gas on my bike and an extra gas can will only get you so far
