I can't figure out why my 440 is burning oil, it gets worse when you hit the gas and it stops when it gets warm...any ideas?

your rings are shot. bring it a shop and tell them u want new rings and bam no more oil burning.

Do a compression check. then squirt some oil into the cylinder and do it again. If it's higher with the oil, your rings are likely worn.

If that's not it, check the valve guides/ seals. It may be pulling oil in around the intake valves.

It did this a little after I installed the kit(december), is it possible for them to be bad already?

Mine smoked like crazy after I installed 416 JE bore. I took it back to the shop and he "spread the edges of the rings apart and it stopped immediatly. They must have been to 'loose.

im not sure what to do, I really don't want to rip the head apart again and don't want to pay a shop to do it cause i don't have the $. Im just not sure how the rings could have went that quick

so do it yourself. its not very hard. and you don't need special tools to do it either. like a ring compressor. you can just push the cycldiner over the rings and push the rings with a screw driver to get them in their. and that the only tool u prolly don't have.

Don't use a screw driver. If you dont have a ring compressor use something that won't scratch or chip the rings. A pop-sickle stick will do in a pinch.

did you break the rings in or just pin the throttle as soon as you got your bike back. You MUST break rings in before you ride it to hard. Sometimes when rings are not broke in, its good to put just a little bit of motor oil in the fuel tank, so it will break the rings in easier. The oil will lubricate the cylinder walls better. It works, i know from past experience, cause i love to run stuff wide open.:macho

It sounds like your rings to me, do a compression check like the others said and you will find out if its the rings before you rip it apart. My stock 400 motor smoked when I let off the throttle, soon to find out I blew two valve seals. if I were you I would replace the valve seals while your in the motor. Call Terry up and get viton valve seals for 10$ and they are simple to install.
