hi i have an 87 250x. It has white bros complete exhaust, race cam, ported polished oversized valves, weisco 12:1 piston, open air box with uni filter, 400ex carb. Ok now my problem is low end torque. It has no power to climb the big silt hills in 3rd gear. My buddy with a new 300ex can climb better than i can with my motor work. His quad is stock with stock gearing and tires, Mine is running 20's on the rear with 13/35 sprocket combo. My quad will scream on the straits and and small hills. I Just seem like i have a big loss in torque. Is this common to the race cam and the head work? What do you recomend to gain the torque back? I love the way it pulls in high rpm. It actually will give a 400 a good run in the straits. I was considering gearing chance, but i dont want to rev out too fast. Any suggestions?

I know exactly what you are talking about. I keep a 12 front sprocket around just to switch out when I know I will need it.

i think your just geared a little tall, go back to stock (13/38) and youll do fine
and as for a motor builder recomendation, gthunder is the best.

geared too tall even with the smaller tires and engine work?? I figured it should be close. stock is 13/38....and most people go up to a 14/38. Instead of going larger up front, i went smaller in the rear.

i would make sure your jetting is where it needs to be. a rich condition will really cause a power loss.

i am thinking that my needle may be a bit rich. Its close, but doesnt seem perfect yet. Im gonna play with that. Do big bore kits give a large increase in torque?
