i agree that alot of people on here and in the magazines areputting down the 400. the 400 is a bullet proof, great handleing, good powerd, and all around quad. i think everyone forgets thats the 400ex is probably the quad that started the new revolution. i am not saying the 400 is perfect, but it does deserve its respect! that's my opion. thanks, mike j. :macho

I abused my 400EX in some sadistic manners.. it never even sputtered for a moment.

bullet proof would be an accurate description.

How does every thread turn into a "brand war" on this site? The 400 is definitely a nice machine, tons of upgrades available for it as well.

this kid named chris has a 400ex near me and i ask hime how many times he fliped it and his answer has countless time and its a o3 and it has never stoped working and the plastics and not broken either and the bars a barly bent that is proof they are bullet proof unlike yamaha and i have a yamaha and i went through a stream and the gasket got pushed up

I ride in the sand and i hate my under powered 400ex for it. I'm sure after some serioues mods it will be able to go good. Just not enough power, so thats why my sister rides that and i ride the banshee and 450r :D!

my EX hasn't had an oil change for 200 hours. I ride it highway to my riding spots pinned wide open for long lengths of time. i roost like mad. i jump it further than it's meant to go.

have i had a problem with the EX so far? no.

btw who cares about banshee's. go play in the sandbox.

i swear all honda motors are amazing. i always look at our local race track at the yfz and yz 426. my 400ex motor has been nothing but good to me. so my next move in to a CRF450 motor in my frame. one of the top racers has to sell his brand new yfz becuase his stator keeps going. yamaha has to find a way to imporve them selfs.

i don't know about the 400ex's but my 300ex is awsomely tough, it's been raced for the last 5 years and flipped i don't know how many times and it's still going strong

I own a Yamaha YZ250F and a 400EX. They both make me happy. I hear lots of talk about one thing is better than the other and maybe it's true maybe it's not true, I don't know. The one thing that I see consistently, however, is the fact that there is a very small percentage of us who have the skill set to truely know. Seems like generalizing about one particular manufacturer or another based on a story or the particulars of a single machine does not make reall good sense. Seems like to me that most failures tend to be a result of our own abuse or misuse. If we don't take care of these things they are liable to leave us stranded regardless of the manufacturer. My $.02 now bash away.

The 400ex really was the "atv of the century". 20th century that is. Back when the 400ex came out it was the most sought out quad of all them all. You know why? It was the return of high performance quads. Nobody else had made any new high performance quads until the 400ex came out. It revolutionized and "reborn" the ATV market. Then everyone else tags along and the 'ole 400 is put down. The same thing happened during the 250r period. If it wasn't for the 250r and the 400ex, you wouldn't have your raptor or banshee or z400 or whatever. Honda started it and they have no intention of stopping it. No flame intended. I hope you all understand what I'm talking about. Just my .02 cents...

I got a 400ex about a month ago and I like it better than my dads banshee. Not that the banshee isnt a good quad, it's just to eratic. I love my 400, they're very stout, everytime I race I stand it up for a good 50 feet or so. Personally i think it's one of the best overall.

their is a honda 400ex bored .040 over with a fmf megamax and kn airfilter with no lid or outewear and he rides all over the place and has never once in 2 years cleaned his fitler, nor changed his oil.. and got some of my left over pennzoil to run it one day when he was almost out.. that thing only smokes at start up.. if its warm it will start by hitting the button once.. if its 15 degrees it took me forever to start my bike almost fouled my 400ex he hit his starter once and it cranked right up and he held it WFO for no reason to let it warm up ?????? that bike right there is one of the best bikes hondas ever built..
