Well I need to buy new tires and rims for my YFZ and I was wondering if Hipers with beadlocks are really worth the extra money . I plan on racing MX mostly . I'm just wondering if I'd be better off with just a regular aluminum wheel with a beadlock or go with the Hipers . Right now everything is stock on the YFZ also . What offsets should I run and what size rims should I buy??

8x8 rears with integraded hub and dual beadlocks, and 10x5 fronts single beadlock.

they are worth every penny!;)
offset depends on what size a-arms you are running

Well right now I'm running the stock a-arms but that will change further down the line . I'll probably end up with +2 or +3's . I've heard lotta guys going with a 4+1 offset on the fronts ... what should I go on the rear??

They are the best wheel you can get. my buddy has them. I have ITP Baja t-9, and they are ok, but still bend. I trashed one already. Next time I'm going hiper.

the best thing about hipers is the fact that the center part of the wheel, not including the beadlock rings, are in three parts. lets say you have a good crash and you dammage the bead lock and the outside of the wheel, but the hub and inside of the wheel is fine...no damage.. you can call hiper and order new beadlock...25.00 i think, and new ouside wheel part for about 45-50 instead of a whole new wheel! plus they are kick arse looking!! they are expensive but not more than any other top of the line beadlock wheel. 190 rear and 170 frnt is what i got them for.

The only way that you can run 4+1 offset on a Yamaha is to get a conversion hub from someone like Hardkor that converts to a 4/144 pattern. Hiper doesn't make a 4+1 offset in a 4/156 pattern.

To answer our question Hipers are the best wheels on the market without a doubt! :macho

They are probably the best beadlocks out there, but I'm not excited about a black wheel... maybe it is just me but I sold my Cdale wheels just because they were black, and went with a T9 Baja - both strong and light, lighter than a beadlock for sure. If you need a beadlock I'd go Hiper or if you can afford it Douglas Ultimates beadlocks (best looking wheel out there IMO). If you don't need a beadlock I would look closely at the T9 Baja. I looked around and it was the wheel that made me happy. Best price was through Haydug Cycles 304-675-3027

Has anybody had troubles using Hipers in cold weather? The idea of a plastic reinforced wheel and the cold of michigan winters doesn't sit easy with me. I know how easily plastic cracks in the cold.

hipers aint plastic i dont think....i think they are carbon fiber

Hipers are injection molded plastic reinforced with carbon fibers. The plastic resin is made by dupont I beleive it's called Zytel 683. I did a term paper on carbon fiber.

I can assure u that it is not Zytel 683 .They hold up just fine in the winter ,I have a set on my DS 650 and was out to the lake and had no problem . It is a one of a kind material and not avaliable to anyone but HiPer.

I had to go find the article I used it was bugging me.:) The wheels are made from Zytel CDV805. The rings are Zytel 84G33L glass reinforced nylon grade. April 19, 2002 Dupont press release.

Thanks for the info on the cold that's what I was looking for.

Well I finally got a complete set of Hipers for the 450 , 4 trims for 800$ Canadian, not too bad of a deal seeing they retail for $1300 up here . Now a few questions .... should LockTight be used on the bolts?? Is there one way thats easier to mount the tires to these rims?? Anything else I should really know before I start putting these things together??

Its simple to mount them! How are you trying todo it?

Mine only goes down to 10 lbs. I was just wondering how to convert ft. lbs. to inch lbs..

I think 100 inch lbs. is about 8-9 ft. lbs...

# in. lbs. / 12 = # ft. lbs.

for example:

100 in. lbs. / 12 = 8.3 ft. lbs.
