I live in South Florida and mine hasn't come on yet since Jan 28th. I just flushed out my stock antifreeze and put in Engine Ice 2 weeks ago. I am curious to see what happens this summer.

Mine comes on riding hard in the woods, but so far not on the track.

I have had my 450r for abuot 5 weeks and the fan has never been on, I was wondering what controls it?

There is a temp sensor located by the upper rad hose that controls it, start your quad up and let it idle for as long as it takes for the fan to come on. You will have to look at it or feel for the air blowing from it because it don't make any noise like you are expecting it to. Every time i wash my bike i fire it up to dry things off and let it run until the fan cycles, usally takes 5 or 10 mins.

Mine's come on a few times after hard trail/track riding, but when top speed sprinting, not so much (more air flow thru radiator). Very quiet fan, unlike my friends DS650's fan...cant talk over that!

A good modification, I did to keep temp. down a bit:
Right out of the water pump cpver, the return line comes out of the cover and goes up. It gets very close to the pipe, espicially if you have a aftermarket head pipe. Take the hose off, get you some radiator hose thats just barely larger that the return hose. Remove the factory hose and place this radiator hose (the thick type that is heat resistant) around the waterpump hose. I saw a friend's 450R who races for Duncan, he had this done on Duncans advice. I have noticed less fan since I did it, and its been hotter lately.

Thanks for all replies! I really thought I would hear it,so perhaps it actually has come on without my knowing. I am going to check it out closer now as I want to make sure it works.

You can make fan come on by grounding out wire going to sensor to engine case and fan will run. I thought my fan was bad since it never came on.
