ok my dad called a guy at elka and the guy told him that i could get 2 inch longer travel front shocks with my stock a-arms....is this true?????it just doesnt sound right to me

I doubt they would fit, and even if they did it would ride and handle like crap.

Dont do it, and that doesnt sound like something Elka would say, unless he means with one of those relocation brackets, like many 300ex riders do.

are u sure he didn't mean 1 to 2 inches more travel then a stock shock??? thats not long travel... long travel means the actual shock body is 18 3/4 or 19 1/4 inches long on the 400ex... depends on the a-arms type...

As long as the shock dosen't bind the ball joints you would be OK. The shock must limit the uptravel and the downtravel of the suspension not the balljoints. ;)
