450r owners w/ stock shocks

i've herd alot of people loosening the preload all the way down for a lower ride height but would'nt this make the suspeinson softer and bottom more?

I don't know how but I heard you can adjust the comp. and rebound to compensate for it....... Does anyone know a site that gives details on how to properly adjust your suspension,,, I am happy with my fronts, but I would like to get the rear to stick a little better over high speed bumps..... any help appreciated thanks
