I have seen it a couple times where people wrap stuff around their header. How well does this work to keep header heat off your legs? I have a curtis sparks ceramic header and am wondering if that wrap will retain moisture or not. Curtis sparks ceramic is known for it's rusting characteristics and I don't want to egg it on by putting a moist towel around it. Where should i get it?

I used header tape for a while on my Cobra and it rusted very badly. I would recommend using a heat shield instead.

But i have the curtis sparks full exhaust and there is no heat shield mounting holes. How do I protect against heat?

The only way I can think of is using some sort of clamps. I also have a Sparks and I've thought about having something fabricated. I haven't tried too hard to see if there are any aftermarket heat shields available.

Anyone have any good ideas on how to protect yourself from a curtis sparks header? besides boots.

for my power bomb header I used the heat tape(foil type) and wrapped where I was going to put my heat shield, then I took hose clamps and clamped on the heat shield over the heat wrap. I only did this because in the winter I use snowpants, they melt pretty easy...-darren

I wonder how hot the header actually gets? How much heat can that tape take before it melts?
What I'm thinking about is getting some sort of heat wrap to put over the header all the way from the head to where it meets the pipe. This way the powder coating won't get all crapy and the heat won't be so intense near my legs, especially when I wear shorts in the summer. Anything sound wrong with this setup?

yeah, well when it's 90+ degrees in Wisconsin and humidity around 70, shorts are the order of the day! Not huge riding boots and pants. Anyone try this sort of setup or another one for there aftermarket header?

The Jlatv products heat shields work great. I have one on my 300. They use clamps that wrap around the header pipe.

get some header wrap, and safety wire it up and when it gets wet take it off and let it dry! No adhesive to get "Burned" onto your pipe, and No burns. Work'd great you can get a 50' roll on ebay for about $30 shipped.

Exhaust heat wrap, even though ugly, is tough as all hell. I've seen it glowing bright red on our race car...the entire headers, wrapped in it. There will be no quad that burns that stuff off, I assure you. ;)
