Stock Muffler Finish

Can I buff the black finish off of my stock muffler? Anybody done this? Any other suggestions for taking it off? I want to polish it too, so its nice and shiney.

im sure you can do it....just use sand paper like 500 then work your way up to 2000 then clean it off real good...and then buff and then polish should come out the way you want it to

I'm thinking the stock 400ex silencer is made of mild steel. So, if you remove the paint it's prolly gone rust.:(
