(7/23/2011) –
Only days after claiming the 2011 SCORE BAJA 500
Class 25 win with Wayne Matlock's team Wes Miller
headed downunder for the Tattersall's Finke Desert
Race, which is the second round of the Australian
Off Road Championship.
While in Austrailia Miller would experience many
things and including taking an impressive second
place overall aboard his GBC Motorsports / Bomb
Squad Racing Honda TRX700 XX ATV.
Shortly
after the race, we interviewed Miller to get some
insight on how things came about to race the Tattersall's
Finke Desert ATV Race get his thoughts on the
trip.
ATVRiders.com:
How did this whole project come about? Whose idea
was it? Who started making the phone calls?
Wes Miller:
I've known about this race for some time now.
I've always wanted to go race it, but it is really
close to the Baja 500 and it never worked out.
This year, I put a few feelers out and Johnny
Campbell got me in touch with Glenn Hoffman Racing.
Glenn runs one of the top Honda off-road teams
in Australia and he was able to line up a quad
for me. I also received a great deal of support
from all of my sponsors: GBC Motorsports, Bomb
Squad, Glenn Hoffman Racing, Desert Edge Motorcycles,
Honda Australia, Rocky Mountain ATV, Hiper Technology,
Rich Morel Motors, FMF Racing, Houser Racing,
Fox Shox, K&N Troy Lee Designs, Precision
Racing Products, PRM-ATV, Scott Goggles, Hammer
Nutrition, Quad Tech, Galfer Brakes, IMS, Spider
Grips, Attack Graphics, Premier Nutrition, Gaerne.

ATVRiders.com:
How did GBC Motorsports become involved as title
sponsor?
Wes Miller:
I've been working closely with GBC after developing
the Bomb Squad tire with them. GBC has a long history
of supporting racing, and when I approached them
about this event, they were 100% behind it. Events
like this give them a chance to test and develop
their tires in the world's toughest races.
ATVRiders.com:
Why did you choose to race with GBC's X-Rex tires?
Wes Miller:I
chose to run GBC X-Rex tires because they offer
great traction and puncture resistance. They also
work really well in a variety of terrain, which
is what I needed for this type of race. I went
with a 23" front and 22" rear for added
ground clearance.
ATVRiders.com:
Can you give a quick day-by-day rundown of what
you had to do to prepare for the race?
Wes Miller:I
was in Baja, Mexico the entire week prior to my
trip to Australia for the Baja 500. We were able
to win the Open Pro ATV class, so I felt good
heading into Finke. I got home late Sunday night
from Baja and flew out Monday night out of LAX.
I barely had enough time to unpack, wash clothes
and gear, and then repack for Australia. I flew
from Los Angeles to Sydney and then Alice Springs.
