Ft. Worth, TX (3/10/2014)- Young racer Joel Hetrick has name a name for himself in the Mtn. Dew AMA ATV Motocross Championship Pro Class. In 2013, Joel Hetrick finished fourth in AMA Pro Motocross championship. Joel Hetrick will once again be joining the pro ranks in 2014 aboard his new JB Racing / Can Am backed ride.

During the winter months, Joel Hetrick has been training down south in Louisiana to be in top physical condition for the ATV Motocross season opener.

We had a chance to speak with Joel Hetrick about his winter training, new race program, and his thoughts on the 2014 racing season.

ATVriders.com: Joel, you’re down here in Louisiana, how’s everything going with training?
Joel Hetrick: Yeah we’re here at Greg Pafford’s house, and it’s going real well so far. Just busting out motos every day and training and it’s been feeling really good so far.

ATVriders.com: This year you’re back on the Can-Am, you took a year leave from it and now you’re back with the JB Racing team?
Joel Hetrick: Yeah, I’m pretty excited about the team! Can-Am, DWT, JB Racing, they are all working together to get me the best quad out there. It’s all working really well, Jay Gobel came down test shocks with us and he got them dialed in really well and we got one more test and we’ll be ready for Aonia!

ATVriders.com: How big is it this year to have Mountain Dew and Rich Gillette on your team?
Joel Hetrick: I think it’s a pretty big deal! To get that outside sponsor and give us some support is huge. I really think it’ll bring other sponsors in and just go from there.

ATVriders.com: How is this Can-Am compared to one that you’ve raced in the past?
Joel Hetrick: I believe it’s a little bit better. We have a different suspension combo with the JB Racing a-arms and the Elka Suspension shocks. We have a little bit of a different motor setup as well. It runs awesome and it’s super smooth, a lot better than the other one, so I’m feeling good.

ATVriders.com: You have Darren Thomas now as your mechanic?
Joel Hetrick:Yeah, he was my mechanic in 2012 and we get along good and he knows what I want and just being a friend of mine is just better, better for me I think.

ATVriders.com: Last year you had an up and down year, you had a really good start at Muddy Creek and were really dominate and then you got hurt and weren’t able to get back to where you were at. What are you plans heading into this season?
Joel Hetrick: I think I’m gonna come out and really push for a podium finish. We usually come out of Aonia Pass with not the best finishes. We got a new game plan, and we just want to stay consistent, you know get on the box as much as we can and hopefully win some races.

ATVriders.com: Over the Winter what have you been doing besides riding?
Joel Hetrick: Just been hitting the gym up and really focusing on my cardio with stairs, and just being doing everything I can do with riding mountain bike and been out here draining the water off the track with a shovel, that’s pretty good exercise (laughs)!

ATVriders.com: How excited are you to have the gate drop here in just about a month?
Joel Hetrick: I’m really excited! I’ve been itching for this first gate drop! I’m tired of just riding everyday, I really want to race! It’s getting closer and closer everyday, and I think we’re ready.
