The
YFZ450R
has larger kashima coated shock bodies
to reduce fricition & increased durabability |
The YFZ450R features 44mm KYB front shocks with
Kashima coating. The front shocks measure 9.8”
of wheel travel. These shocks also feature high
and low speed compression, rebound, threaded preload
adjustments and piggy back style reservoirs.
Both Harold and Keith were impressed at how well
the stock shocks performed on the motocross track,
so much so that they both felt comfortable enough
to launch nearly every jump on the track expect
the huge down hill ski jump, which was impressive
for stock suspension, and there only complaint
was that the suspension felt a little stiff, but
considering we didn't have time to dial in the
shocks for our riders preference due to limited
amount of time available on the track before sunset,
the YFZ450R stock suspension performed extremely
well, and offers plenty of adjustability for individual
rider tuning.

Vanasdal tearing of the Ballance Moto
X track on the YFZ450R |
Ballance Moto X has a lot to offer and it was
the perfect place to truly test out the YFZ450R
in stock form on a National Motocross track.
Both Harold Goodman and Keith little were both
greatly impressed on how well the YFZ450R felt
while riding at Ballance Moto X just after hundreds
of the weekends racing participants pounded
the dirt for two days straight.

Little will race a fully modified Yamaha
YFZ450R at Red Bud as part of the ATVRider
Magazine MXperiment |
“It was nice being able to ride the YFZ450R
stock before building up my race YFZ450R later
on in the year” said Keith. Keith has plans
to make to switch to ride an YFZ450R at the Red
Bud National on August 1st for the ATVrider Magazine
MXperiment; in which, Keith has been racing the
TRX450R, KFX450R, YFZ450R, and LTR450 at the Motocross
Nationals in the Pro Class to determine what it
takes for each to be competitve at the pro level.
After we all had a chance to ride the YFZ450R
around the Ballance Moto X track, we were all
impressed at how well the YFZ450R performed
in stock form, and Harold Goodman enough joked
with Keith Lttle about Little looking faster
on the stock YFZ450R than his TRX450R race quad
that weekend.
“Overall it’s a pretty comfortable
bike in stock form and its one of the better
stock bikes I’ve ridden!” says Keith
Little. The YFZ450R has a lot of characteristics
that make it an all around great ATV. With its
smooth fuel injected power, precise handling,
and tunable suspension the YFZ450R can be a
very competitive machine on an off the motocross
track.
