2011 John Deere Gator XUV 825i

2013 John Deere Gator RSX 850i SxS / UTV Test Drive Review
::Continued::

It also offers a great mixture of terrain from high speed trails, sand whoops, slick rock, and hill climbs, but the majority of the drive was high speed switchback trails, which allowed us to open up the Gator RSX 850i to its top speed of 53 MPH.

Seven Mile Rim Trail - Moab, UT
The John Deere Gator RSX 850i Sport SxS / UTV has predictable steering with adequate braking. The RSX also features engine braking which help wear on the brake pads

The braking on the Gator RSX 850i is adequate with a rear brake basis when slamming on the brakes, so it tends to slide more than expected when trying to make a quick stop.  We feel that more front brake force should be applied to stop the vehicle quicker, but unless you are traveling at a high speed, the brakes perform great at slower speeds.  Also, the RSX 850i is equipped with an automotive style parking brake and puts the machine into limp mode if you forget to dis-engage it, which prevent you from burning up the parking brake.

The John Deere Gator RSX850i also features engine braking as well, which takes a little getting used to, but is a good feature when descending steep terrain because when the engine braking engages it helps with reducing brake fade. “It was a little different because you have to rev it up a little to get it to engage, but you get used to it,” said Mitchell.

The All-new John Deere Gator RSX 850i Sport SxS / UTV features a powerful 839cc V-Twin engine produces 62 horsepower & 59.5 foot pounds of torque

The RSX850i is powered by an 839cc , V-Twin, four-cycle motorcycle gasoline engine that produces 62 horsepower and 59.5 foot pounds of torque. The advanced electronic controls and fuel-injection system delivers superb starting, idling, and throttle response during operation. The closed-loop electronic fuel injection offers superb performance, instant throttle response, consistent performance at high altitude, and hassle-free cold-weather starting. Another benefit is that the engine is mounted transversely under the seats for a low center of gravity and more equal weight distribution between the front and rear axles, adding to the Gator’s legendary stability.

Four our second day of our test drive, John Deere took us to Hell’s Revenge, which featured plenty of slick rock and a wide variety of terrain that gave us plenty of opportunities to test out the suspension and the rest of the Gator RSX850i features.
