“I really had to fight today,” said Nelson. “I had to deal with traffic during the whole race, so it was pretty cool to get up to second. The track was just gnarly. Everyone is running on the same track, so it was crazy rough. I’m just stoked. The Yamaha is working great with no failures yet. This is the first full-on race UTV we’ve had and it ran flawlessly.”

Corbin Leaverton WORCS Racing
Corbin Leaverton rounded out the Pro Stock class podium in third place, despite a broken driveshaft and failed power steering unit.

Corbin Leaverton fought through a broken driveshaft and failed power steering to nail down the last spot on the podium. 2016 marks Leaverton’s first full season of WORCS competition, and he is off to a great start to the season.

“We were battling today,” said Leaverton. “I just tried to hang in there and we came out with the podium. I was battling for the lead until I lost my power steering. From there I just cruised to the finish.”

In Pro Unlimited, Ryan Piplic backed up his third-place finish in Round One to win the race. Ray Bulloch drove his naturally aspirated Polaris to his second consecutive runner-up finish, ahead of Ryan Holz. Piplic, who was running in two-wheel drive due a broken front differential, passed Bulloch on the Trophy Truck section of the track late in the race and held on for victory.

“It was a lot of fun,” said Piplic. “The track was super-gnarly. It was rough, but these were the best conditions for me because it suits my driving style. My car was handling great. This just shows that RZR Turbos are fast, and they can really push. It feels really good to get the win. I blew it in the lead in the first race, so to win here is super exciting.”

Ray Bulloch admitted he was at a disadvantage of the turbo cars, but took the lead at the start. He battled with Piplic, lost the lead, but very nearly took the victory at the end.

“It seems like running the big bore was a disadvantage here because this course allowed the turbo cars to stay on the boost,” said Bulloch. “So I got out-horsepowered. Piplic got past me and I had to deal with a lot of lapped traffic. I got right behind him at the end, but I just ran out of time.”
