Once
again, Arizona was experiencing some wild
weather with heavy mountain snow & colder
than normal temperatures. The valley received
some well needed rain & a double rainbow
formed over the Sedona, Arizona Mountains |
The weather was once again abnormally cold for most
of the weekend with high winds, but on Sunday, the
sun came out and it warmed up for the Pro ATV main
event Speed World MX in Surprise, AZ, where dust
can be an issue, but that wasn’t the case
this year because the track was amply watered, but
some sections of the course were hard packed and
the addition of standing water created some slick
spots for the racers.

Spark Racing's #549 Beau Baron closes in
on #2 Josh Frederick & #422 David Haagsma
through the WORCS-X Section |
Heading into this round, it was imperative for Maxxis/H&M
Motorsports’ Beau Baron to win in order to
close the points gap between him and Josh Frederick.
After a less than stellar start, Baron was on a
mission. “I was seventh off the start and
I had to work through the pack. I was getting roosted
and I ended up using all of my tear-offs because
of the water. It was pretty tough,” said Baron.
By lap four, Baron had caught up to Josh Frederick,
who was in second, and David Haagsma, who was in
the lead. “I made the pass on Frederick and
then I caught up to David and he was really tough
to pass, but he finally made a mistake and I got
by,” said Baron, who took the lead, and recorded
the fastest lap time of the race in the eighth lap.

Maxxis'
#549 Beau Baron takes over the lead in lap
8 when #2 Josh Frederick pitted for fuel
& Baron wasn't about to surrender the
lead as he put in the fastest laptime of
the race with a time of 10:32.013 to pull
an 11 second gap on Frederick by the end
of the lap |
Once out front, Baron distanced himself from
the competition with every lap and took the pro
win by over 20 seconds ahead of Josh Frederick.
“It was a really good day today. I was really
disappointed at the last round because I was in
the lead and crashed, but taking the win today
really makes me feel a lot better and I’m
happy to be on top today,” said Baron.
