9 - Amateur ATV Race Report
Collins Webster, Keith Johnson,
Julie Russell Class Champions
Surprize, AZ - The final round
of the WORCS ATV racing series rolled into a notoriously
rainy SpeedWorld MX Park is Surprise, Arizona
on November 11, 2011. This round would be the
deciding factor in many of the point’s battles
that had been ongoing through out the 2011 racing
season. Production A would be the first off the
gate and the points battle for this class was
the tightest of all!!

Apex's
#224y Kyler Thau finished out the final
rounds with a 2nd at the final round in
the 70 Stock Class, but his 6 class wins
were more than enough to secure the championship
|
Apex's
#6y Travis Beckman secured the 70 Open &
Production ATV class championships with
a combined 11 wins for the year |
The flag dropped and the race was on and Keith
Johnson #1P edged out D.J. Noerr #842. The race
was between the two for the points lead! Johnson
needed to finish ahead of Noerr to win the championship.
Collins Webster #39 was also in the top three.
He would have a mid pack start. Keith Johnson
would easily hold the lead for a majority of the
race. Mike Sloan #95 would make a hard charge
and was beating in Johnson's back bumper. Johnson
bicycled on the trophy truck track and Sloan passed
him. Johnson was content letting the day rider
pass him since he had a championship on the line.

#83
Cody Mitchell grabbed the Casey Johnson
$200 Pro-Am Holeshot Award |
Sunday morning rolled around and the riders were
up and at it early. The Pro/ Pro Am race was moved
to 10:30am due to the end of year awards banquet.
The Pro's were off and the Pro Am's were staged,
motors revved and the gates dropped. The racers
all held their ground but Cody Mitchell #83 would
edge out 14 other racers to grab the Casey Johnson
#312 Pro Am Holeshot Award for the second time
this season! After talking to many of the Pro
Am racers they had worked out their scenarios
for what it would take to finish in be best possible
points position. Whether it be winning or finishing
on the podium, you can never prepare for the monkey
wrenches that can be thrown in the best laid plans!
The riders were putting in their laps with Collins
Webster #39 who is leading the Pro Am points taking
the early lead with second place in points Keith
Johnson #1P not giving Webster any breathing room.
Johnson kept the hard charge on, he commented,
“This morning I woke up this morning to
rain, Richard from LMR prepped my bike for the
race today. My LMR motor and Maxxis tires putting
me in second place behind Collins.” Johnson
looked like he was going to be able to make the
pass on the third lap, when he was a little too
aggressive and spun out in the process.
