7 - Glen Helen - Amateur ATV Race Report
Devore, CA - Production A was sitting
on the line under a cloudless sky with the sun beating
down. The motors revved and the flag dropped, D.J.
Noerr #842 easily grabbed the hole shot around the
Talladega turn. The pack took off on the motocross
track.
Meanwhile the Women's A gate was waiting for
their thirty- second delay. They took off and
Julie Russell #1W and Donna Espensen #100 were
neck and neck heading toward the first turn. Julie
Russell #1W would make it through the turn first
grabbing the holeshot

All the riders were off and riding around the track.
Collins Webster #39 had a decent start and worked
his way up to first place by the third lap. He would
keep the lead for the rest of the fifty-minute race.
D.J. Noerr #842 who had the hole shot would slip
back to second. He would have a strong finish in
the second position. Chase Thomas #622 would have
a fifth place start and work his way up to the third
position by the third lap and maintain that position
for the remainder of the race.
Garrin Fuller #45 had a back of the pack start,
where he began making up ground on the field.
He made his way up to the fourth position where
he would finish. Keith Johnson #1P who is normally
a top five racer in Production A had a series
of misfortunes in this race with a blown out shock
and a flat front tire. He lost the point lead
in Production A to D.J. Noerr #842. Johnson #1P
would manage to finish the race in eighth place
after his pit stop.

Class Win |
Women’s A racers would hold their positions
from start to finish with Julie Russell #1W finishing
in first and Donna Espensen #100 finishing in
second place. “After getting the holeshot
I pulled a comfortable lead which I maintained
until the finish. A special thanks to my sponsors
for making my quad so amazing!” commented
Russell #1W after her win.
As the heat reached its high of the day the Open
A class was lining up, riders took to their quads
and were ready to race. Cody Mitchell #83 would
grab the holeshot around the Talladega turn with
Grant Mitchell #32 and Keith Johnson #1P right
on his tail. Johnson #1P would work his way around
G. Mitchell #32, and C. Mitchell #83 to take the
lead, shortly thereafter he would have his second
flat tire of the weekend. He came in for a pit
stop to change the tire and went back out. He
wasn’t racing to qualify, but to test out
the shock for the Pro AM race on Sunday.
Javier Robles Jr. #58 would work his way up from
a fourth place start to run second for most of
the race. He would finish in the second position
qualifying for Pro AM. Daniel Grodski #800 would
race coming from a sixth place start to finish
on the podium in the third position. The points
battle for Open A is also within twenty points
between first and third.

On Sunday the Pro AM racers took their staging
positions and the motors revved. The 30-second
board was up and they were waiting for the gates
to drop. They took off down the long straight
away and around the infamous Talladega turn. Cody
Mitchell #83 would be the recipient of the Casey
Johnson # 312 Pro Am Hole Shot Award coming around
the Talladega turn first. Collins Webster #39
would take the lead soon after that and keep his
lead throughout the race.
Chase Thomas #622 would make his climb with a
decent start and go from fourth to the second
position. He accomplished this feat with hard
riding in hot conditions and mechanical failures
for other riders. Javier Robles Jr. #58 rode in
second place for the first five laps and would
finish tenth due mechanical issues. Keith Johnson
#1P also benefitted from other riders misfortune,
with Fuller #45 losing a radiator hose, and Robles
#58 out with mechanical issues he moved up into
the third position. He too was almost victim to
mechanical issues.
