Milford, CA - Can-Am/Motoworks’ Josh Frederick rode another flawless race this weekend, taking the Pro class win and wrapping up his second consecutive WORCS Pro Championship, while teammate Brandon Smith claimed the number two spot on the podium for the Motoworks team.

Honey Lake MX Park in Milford, CA was the hosting track for round seven of the WORCS series. The weekend’s weather was warm and sunny with temperatures in the upper 80’s, but the dry conditions made the sandy soil become incredibly rough with huge whooped out sections that took their toll on many riders.

Anticipation was high in the Motoworks pits as riders began lining up for the main event. Josh Frederick, who had been ill for the last week, and was still not feeling 100%, could quite possibly claim his second consecutive championship if everything went well, but Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson and privateer Beau Baron were within striking distance of taking over the points lead if Josh could not hold his ground. “Josh was still feeling pretty bad before the race, but I think some of that had to do with nerves since he had so much riding on this race,” said Motoworks team manager Johnny Leach.

It seemed that Johnny’s insight was spot on because when the Pro class left the line, Josh Frederick grabbed the holeshot and never looked back. “I knew it was important to get out front right away,” said Frederick. In the second lap, Josh recorded the fastest lap of the race with a time of 6 minutes and 39 seconds. Josh was riding smooth and fast and was steadily increasing his lead over the rest of the pack while a real battle began to brew for second spot.

Yamaha's Dustin Nelson was second in the holeshot followed by Robbie Mitchell and Doug Eichner, but Brandon Smith quickly made his way into the 3rd spot. Nelson and Smith began to pull away early in the first lap and battle for position. By the end of the second lap, Smith had taken over second place, but dropped back to third in lap three when he made a stop in the pits. The battle between Nelson and Smith would last for half of the 14 lap race, with the two swapping positions several times, but in lap number seven, Smith took over second place and this time made it stick as he began to pull away from Nelson. “It was a good feeling to be able to have a good race this time, especially after having to watch it all from the sidelines at the last round,” said Smith, sounding a little relieved.
