Cingoli, Italy - A weekend dominated by
rain, fog and Nicola Montalbini wiith two moto wins,
the Italian Honda rider of Team Cozzi got the overall.
Second place went to Matthieu Ternynck (Yamaha France-Drag’On)
with Romain Couprie (Yamaha-Audemar) rounds out
the podium to maintain his Championship points lead.
With four weeks that have passed, the UEM European
Quadcross Championship Series resumed at Cingoli,
Italy for third round. What should have been a
weekend of sun and racing ended up in a weekend
of rain and patiently waiting. Starting on Friday
night, the rain made the Saturday practice impossible.
It was unsure until Sunday morning if the third
round could take place. An half an hour before
the final decision, the rain stopped and the fog
cleared out, so it was finally time to race.

Despite
the less than desirable weather, still a
large crowd of spectators came out to show
their support for the racers that braved
the mud even though it was hard to identify
one racers from another covered in mud,
so after each run on the track, the racers
headed to the wash stations to clean up |
Since the Saturday practice was cancelled, riders
had 40 minutes to learn the track and put down
a qualifying time. It was Montalbini that put
down the first fast time. Others were not familiar
with the track and needed some more time. In the
last ten minutes, Davy Brems (W-Tec-Quad Deal)
improved the fastest time with half a second.
Minutes later, Jan Vlaeymans did almost a second
of his team mate lap time. With 2’16.750,
Vlaeymans secured the first place.

Davi Brems dominated the timed qualifying
with the two quickest times |

Mark Watson made the 2700 mile round trip
to Cingoli, Itlay worthwhile with a Moton
One 1st Place finish |
Moto one was lead by Mark Watson (KTM). The Brit
took the holeshot and never gave up his first place.
Slowly, he built up a 9 second lead. Thereby getting
his first European moto win. Watson has proven to
be fast in the previous rounds and now he proved
he can win. Behind Watson, Matthieu Ternynck took
second place. The Factory Yamaha pilot secured his
position and stayed in front of Montalbini
Behind the top three, places shifted a lot. Due
to the single lined track and slower drivers.
Overtaking was difficult and risky. Many riders
bumped into each other while trying to pass. This
caused a lot of carnage with all the riders. Romain
Couprie held his head cool and worked his way
up from eight to fourth place. Thereby, controlling
the damage in the Championship.
Jason MacBeth (Factory KTM UK) showed himself
strongly this weekend. The transfer to the KTM
team seems to be digested with a fifth place.
Paul Holmes (KTM-Holmes Racing) came off to a
bad start. While working his way up, Holmes got
stuck into the mud after a collision with another
rider. Besides the single lined track and many
lapped riders, the blue flag was missing. Marshalls
didn’t used the flag to warn slower riders.
This caused frustration with faster riders, who
got obstructed and saw valuable points disappear.
