Yamaha's
Romain Couprie Dominated Round 1 with two
Moto wins & a 3rd to secure the Overall
Win for France |
Oldebroek,
Holland (4/12/2010) - Audemar Yamaha’s
Romain Couprie takes the first round of the Goldspeed
UEM European Quadcross Championship at Oldebroek,
Holland. The French Yamaha rider came out on top
after three heavily fought moto’s. Jan Vlaeymans,
W-Tec - Planet Quad, took second place just in front
of Davy Brems, W-tec - Quad Deal, who ended up taking
third place.
On Saturday, a total of 42 riders had to battle
for their place in the race on Monday. Only the
fastest 20 riders received a chance to race on
Monday at the main event. In group A, it was Jan
Vlaeymans that had the best time of his series
as well as the other. Behind him French rider
Matthieu Ternynck, Yahama – Drag’on,
secured second place before British KTM rider
and current European Champion Paul Holmes. “I
was just one second behind Vlaeymans, which gives
me fifth choice at the gate for Monday’s
racing”. In group B, Romain Couprie attained
first place before Joe Maessen (Yamaha - Goldspeed)
and Davy Brems.

Although it being a bit chilly, damp, and
on Easter Holiday, a large crowd was in
attendence to watch the best of Europe compete
in round number one of the UEM Goldspeed
QuadCorss European Championship |
On Easter, the riders had a day of recuperation.
The organization wasn’t allowed race due
to the religious holiday. As it turned out, the
day of rest was a welcomed gift. It rained the
entire day, making racing practically impossible.
“The organization, Stichting Oldebroek,
worked hard on the track Monday morning before
the trainings session. Allowing the race to be
continued in normal condition” told Jan
Vlaeymans us. The Oldebroek race track is very
narrow and extremely demanding for both rider
and machine. Only 15 riders finished all three
moto’s successfully. The sand track, with
its deep ruts of the Sidecars, was the stage for
the three moto’s lasting 25 minutes plus
two additional rounds. Due to the narrowness of
the track and single channel nature. A good start
was of extreme importance, next to a powerful
bike and an iron shape.

Racers from all over Europe are represented
the UEM Goldspeed Quadcross European Championship,
in hopes of securing a win for themselves
& their country |
n moto one, it was young Belgian rider Davy Decuyper
(KTM - Deforce) that took the Holeshot. Round
after round he kept all contenders behind him.
Half way through the race, Romain Couprie was
able to take both Paul Holmes and Davy Decuyper
in the same round. Placing himself on the number
one spot and Decuyper on second place. “I
could overtake Paul Holmes and Davy Decuyper and
ride my own race for the second half of the moto.”
Paul Holmes was able to shift from third to second
place in the last two laps. Behind the top three,
not much changed. The entire top 7 ended only
8 seconds from each other. All riders trying to
overtake the person in front of them, while protecting
their own position. Fourth and fifth place were
for Davy Brems and Joe Maessen.
British KTM Factory rider Jason MacBeth ended up
at the eight place. Keeping his options open the
for the Championship. Multi-British Champion Paul
Winrow was not in his top form, only a week after
the death his father, Paul Winrow's father was remember
by a moment of silence during the riders presentation.

W-Tec Factory rider Jan Vlaeymans grabbed
the Moto 2 Holeshot & held on to claim
the Moto Win followed by Davy Brems also
on a W-Tec ATV |
The second moto was dominated by Jan Vlaeymans. The
young W-tec Factory pilot took the Holeshot and
was gone. Slowly building up a lead over team mate
Davy Brems. As the race looked like a sealed deal,
several positions changed in the final 2 laps. As
the top 10 riders were doubling, positions shifted.
The lead of Vlaeymans disappeared after a near collision.
Giving team mate Davy Brems the chance to fight
again for first place. Corner after corner the two
battled it out. At the checkered flag, Vlaeymans
had his first European victory of the season with
only 0.2 seconds to spare on Brems. “I was
extremily happy with my start and race. It went
smooth until the end.” The top three was completed
by Romain Courpie. The French Audemar Yamaha pilot
was able to overtake Paul Holmes in the last lap.
