Yamaha / Quad-X Racing Series
Glen Helen - Round 1

San Bernardino, CA (2/18/2014) - The 2014 Yamaha Quadcross Series kicked off this past weekend at Glen Helen, and it was Yamaha's Dustin Nelson claiming the win in the season opener while he dominated both motos with a 1-1 score for the day. LMR's Robbie Mitchell finished in the runner up position, while BSY/Yamaha rider Tanner Gemperle rounded out the podium of round one at the Yamaha Quadcross.

With Southern California offering exceptional racing conditions, riders and spectators were greeted to the Golden State's famous "sunny and 75" weather. As the pristine track was prepped to perfection, the American Flag waved on top of the notorious Mt. St. Helen's hill climb and dozens of quads turned the first practice laps of the season. As it came time for the Pro gate drop, spectators lined the track to watch the action.

Grabbing the holeshot in the first moto was former Quadcross Champion #94 Dustin Nelson. Racing his Walsh/Fox backed Yamaha to the early lead; he rode a smooth consistent race for approximately twenty minutes as he dominated the entire moto. Nelson set the fastest lap time of the race in lap four with a 2:01.161. Proceeding to extend his lead on the rest of the field by almost sixteen seconds, he safely cruised his way to the finish on the last three laps and crossed the finish line with an impressive eleven-second lead.

As Glen Helen is known for it's big hills and famous "Talladega" holeshot turn, there were a few changes to the course for the season opener. "The track was fun with a little different layout than usual, using different corners to get up and down the big hills. I'm stoked on the power and handling of the bike this year, can't get much better than two holeshots and two moto wins," Nelson stated in regards to the updated track and how his amazing machine handled the rough terrain.

Nelson duplicated his first moto as he once again ripped the holeshot in moto two. Riding a flawless race, the ATV motocross veteran showed true talent as he rode his DWT/Dubach Racing YFZ across the checkers with an eighteen second lead.

Satisfied with his outstanding finish at the season opener, Nelson is eager to keep his momentum going as he prepares to maintain his points lead for the eight race long season.
