Yamaha Quad X ATV Motocross Racing Series

David Haagsma & Beau Baron Round Out Pro Podium

Yamaha / Quad-X Racing Series
Canyon MX - Round 6

Peoria, AZ (9/10/2013) - The Yamaha Quad X Series held their sixth round at the Canyon Raceway in Peoria, Arizona and Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson claimed victory to notch his second win of the season. H&M Motorsports’ David Haagsma took second and Beau Baron rounded out the top three.

Nine pros took to the line and the track presented not only gnarly jumps and turns, but also tight lines that made passing very difficult. The temperatures were sweltering just over the 100 degree mark and the track crew had watered the track to the point of thick, sloppy mud at every turn. Dustin Nelson capitalized on the unique conditions with a scorecard of 1-2 to earn the overall win.

“I didn’t get the start I wanted in moto one and was sitting in fifth through the first turns. I knew how tight it was and passing was not easy. I was able to get into third on lap on and had to chase down Josh Row and Beau Baron. I caught them and was able to get around Baron when he made a mistake and then about ½ the race later was finally able to get around Row. Once I had the lead, I kept a steady pace and tried to save my quad,” regarded Nelson about moto one.

The second moto started out similar for Nelson, he was fourth off the start and quickly moved into third. He caught up to the leaders and began to pressure David Haagsma; Haagsma bobbled and Nelson took over the second spot. Baron had checked out by this point and Nelson was able to ride his own race to finish and secure the win.

In Pro Moto 2, Dustin Nelson started mid pack and worked his way up to second place before crossing the finish. Nelson's 1-2 finishes earned him his second overall win of the 2013 Yamaha Quad-X ATV Motocross Season

“Everything worked great. My Walsh Race Craft / FOX Suspension set up was great and I had a ton of power. I felt good, and am glad to get the win. I just need to notch a few more and keep strong for the rest of the season,” said Nelson who currently holds second in the class.

H&M Motorsports’ David Haagsma finished in second after going 3-3 in the motos. Haagsma had some quad issues in the beginning of moto one which dropped him from third at the beginning of lap one to ninth at the end. He rallied and his quad worked through the problem. Haagsma came back to claim third place and clock the fastest lap of the moto, an impressive 01:53.234 on lap six.

Haagsma grabbed the holeshot in moto two and was in second as the pros rounded the track. He ripped around the track in second until lap eight, when he bobbled and Nelson was able to get by him. His 3-3 finish allowed him to take second for the day.  He is currently ranked first in the Pro 450 Production class.
“I am pumped to have the points lead, but it’s not big enough. I need to be perfect for the rest of the season and finish strong,” regarded Haagsma.

Maxxis Tire’s Beau Baron went 6-1 at the round to claim third. Baron was in third off the start in moto one and was charging towards the lead. The thick mud caused him to go through all of his tear offs and on lap four he took an inside line and got stuck on a berm that he didn’t see. He was able to push his quad off the berm and continue on, but the mishap caused his to drop all the way back to ninth. Baron crossed the checkers in sixth.
