Comp Edge - Round 4

Hesperia, CA (7/5/2013) - Searing heat and 108 degree temperatures greeted the racers at the fourth round of the Yamaha Quad X Series at Comp Edge in Hesperia, California. H&M Motorsports' David Haagsma continued his domination with his third win of the season.

Dustin Nelson and Beau Baron finished second and third respectably. H&M Motorsports’ David Haagsma put in another winning race by scoring 1-2 for the round. Haagsma used his Curtis Sparks engine to grab the holeshot in moto one. He charged ahead and never looked back from the lead. Haagsma generated a nice size gap over second before his quad began to sputter from excessive heat. He was able to maintain his lead and take the moto win despite the issue.

“The H&M Honda was working pretty well. My Maxxis Tires had great traction and the motor was pulling hard. We had a little issue with the heat, but we worked through it and still took the win,” said Haagsma.

Moto two brought second place for Haagsma. He was second off the line behind his teammate, Beau Baron, and followed Baron for the entire race. Haagsma put pressure on Baron for a few laps, before backing down and settling for second. The finish gave him the overall win and further extended his points lead in the Pro ATV Class.

Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson rode to a second place overall after scoring 2-3 for the day. In moto one, Nelson had a good start and was in third as the pack of pros headed down the track. He made a brief mistake and went off the track; the mishap dropped him to fourth. He quickly rebounded and passed back into third position. Midway through the race Nelson made the pass for second and remained there until the checker, crossing the finish just a few seconds behind Haagsma.

“The first moto went pretty well. It was really hot and I had to be careful; my overheat light was on for almost the entire moto and I really wanted to conserve my quad,” explained Nelson of moto one.
