Kyle Martin was back to his winning
ways as he dominated the Hoosier XC race
in Bedford, IN for round 8 of the OMA series
& inched closer to the points lead |
Bedford, IN - Round number eight of the ten race OMA Nationals
series was contested at the Martin Family farm in
rural Bedford, Indiana. Weather conditions were
good, but a lack of rain left the soil extremely
dry. It didn’t take long for the dust clouds
to develop on the trails and high speed field sections.
After one hour and fifty minutes of battle Kyle
Martin passed his Moose Racing Dirtworks Motorsports
Honda under the moto tally scoring checkpoint
to complete his eleventh lap of the circuit and
take his second victory of the season. The Houser
DC Cycles Honda of Ryan Lane was just thirty five
seconds behind Martin to collect second place.
John Pitts picked up the final podium spot by
keeping his Dirtworks Motorsports Rekluse Honda
just nine seconds ahead of past OMA Nationals
Bryan Hulsey and the Duncan Racing IMS Honda.

Jay Humphrey
took the win in his A-ATV Class aboard
his Honda ATV while in Indiana
|
A class ATV racer Jay Humphrey rolled his Mom
and Dad sponsored Elka Honda through the timing
stand thirty seconds later but one lap down to
take the class win and fifth place overall. While
Humphrey was followed by fellow A ATV racer Brandon
Symmes on the Beechmont Motorsports Moose Racing
Yamaha, who clocked in just twenty two seconds
later taking second place in class and marking
the final racer to complete ten laps of the grueling
course.
After riding a practice lap, all of the racers
knew a good start would be critical. Sloan Jackson
took the K&N holeshot bonus, but, according
to Martin “he killed it out in the woods.”
Jackson dropped out with unspecified troubles
after four laps. “I was able to get a decent
start and got by Sloan Jackson,” recalled
Martin.

Josh Beavers
had a good showing in the early part of
the dusty stage but would later drop out
due to mechanical issues
|
“Then Josh Beavers took the lead. I was
able to put a pretty good pass on him in a spot
I had kind of picked out on the practice lap.
It was right before an open field and I knew I
could make some dust and get a little spacing.
I was able to have a clear track ahead of me and
today that made the biggest difference.”
Beavers would drop out of the event after only
four laps with electrical troubles on his Performance
Super Cycle KTM 450xc. With clear running ahead,
Martin clicked off a couple laps under ten minutes
and tried to build a gap over the Moose Racing
Full Bore Honda of Ryan Lane.

Kyle Martin
would have much clearer sight-lanes for
his running of the Gusse course &
was able to hold onto the lead for the
entire race & inch incredibly close
to the points lead by being only 4 points
behind Brian Hulsey in the points lead

According to Martin, “Ryan’s a fast
rider. We’ve raced quite a bit in the past
at the other national series. We’ve raced
together and had a lot of fun racing, so I knew
when he showed up that we were going to have another
guy right up there in the mix. I knew I had to
get out and make some dust and try to make some
space between me and the rest of the guys.”
The plan was working for Martin, but things got
a bit shaky in the last four laps due to a failed
right front wheel bearing. “It was really
wobbly and noisy,” recalled Martin. “I
had no front brakes the last four laps but it
held together. Ryan Lane started catching me so
I had to put the hammer down a little bit.”

Ryan Lane
made an appearance for round 8 & came
out with a very hard fought 2nd place
finish, just 35 seconds behind race winner
Kyle Martin
|
Thirty five seconds was as close as Ryan Lane could get his Bignall, Indiana
based Pivot Works Honda to race winner Kyle Martin.
“I caught Kyle’s dust and tried to
push through it but I just never could,”
lamented Lane. “I started clipping some
trees and rocks that you couldn’t see. The
last couple laps I just backed off. I figured
there wasn’t no sense in goin’ out
of here in an ambulance.” Lane put in a
great effort and actually ran the fastest lap
of the race on lap number four where he bettered
Martin’s best time by one second with a
nine minute and forty four second tour of the
circuit.
At the podium interview, Lane said “It
was pretty exciting. I just couldn’t push
through that last little bit of dust. The course
was great. I liked all the changes, the hills,
the little bit of open, the creek. It was a real
nice course.”
