Mesick, MI - The Parts Unlimited
OMA Nationals series travelled to rural Mesick,
Michigan for their round five event, the DP Brakes
Wolverine XC. Race day conditions were great, with
clear skies, temperatures in the upper eighties,
and moderate humidity.
The Twin Bay Trail Riders co-sanctioned the event
and they filled the ranks with a good number of
racers. John Pitts blasted his Duncan Racing Rekluse
Honda ahead of the pack to collect a one hundred
dollar K&N holeshot bonus award at the first
turn, and then it was off to navigate five miles
of Bill Gusse challenges through the woods and
sand hills of northern Michigan.
After eight laps of close racing fellow Missouri
based rider Bryan Hulsey blasted his Dirtworks
Motorsports Moose Racing Honda through the Moto-Tally
scoring grid just one point two seconds ahead
of Pitts for the victory. Third place went to
Kyle Martin and the Parts Unlimited Maxxis DP
Brakes Honda just sixteen point five seconds later.
Eight laps of close racing were completed with
the top three finishers on the same minute.

#2
Bryan Hulsey has been on the gas lately
& was on a mission to win yet again
at round 5 for the Wolverine XC in Michigan
- he scored another win for himself aboard
his Honda TRX450R ATV with just under 2
seconds to spare ont he 2nd place ride of
John Pitts
|
“Yeah, it was a pretty good battle.”
said Hulsey. “Me and John battled up front
pretty much the whole race. I’d gain up
on him, and then I’d fall back in the dust.
I got him in the dirt mounds over there. He slid
up a little wide in a water hole and I was able
to keep a straight line and I got by him there
with two laps to go.”
After overtaking Pitts, Hulsey held off his hard
charging racing buddy to claim his second consecutive
victory in the series. The former series champion
and his Outlaw Racing UM Performance Honda are
now on the top of the series points standings
at the half way mark.

John Pitts
was just under the mark being beat out
of 1st place by just under 2 seconds by
Hulsey - Pitts landed in the 2nd place
position on the podium & remains hopeful
in the championship

John Pitts took his Smith Goggles Vee Rubber Honda to a hard fought second
place and was “very happy” with the
results. “I am beat,” he said with
a smile. “I’m a forty five minute
racer. I’m whooped, but I’m happy
with how it turned out.” Pitts has stepped
up his game this year and has made it to the podium
at three of the four races he has run.
He has grabbed a couple of the K&N holeshot
awards, and the Dirtworks Motorsports Blingstar
Honda from Missouri is running strong. According
to Pitts, today was a “really good run.
I got the holeshot and lead a few laps, so that
felt good.” He also said “I hope to
do that a little more often.”
Current OMA Nationals series champion Kyle Martin
had a good start aboard his Dirtworks Motorsports
Wiseco Pistons Honda, but had an unlucky setback
early in the event. Martin admitted that “this
is a new bike, so we’re getting used to
it. It’s a lot of the same components and
everything, but I wasn’t able to get my
kick starter gears installed in time, so we were
running on electric only. It usually works flawless.
Me getting the bike together late, it probably
had a few bugs in it.”
