Middleboro, MA - The old-time sands of Capeway Rovers in Carver, Massachusetts played host to round 8 of the New England ATV Motocross Champioship Series on August 1st, 2010.

The track would see a few new changes to the layout of the course along with a few new names as well, Jason Dunkelberger from the ITP Quadcross Series on the West Coast, and Randy Lehr who mixed things up at the last round at his home track of Hurricane Hills. DRT / KTM’s Michael Pilotte would claim his second overall win of the 2010 season by putting on a fantastic performance in the Pro Production class while BCS Performance / Can-Am’s Cody Miller would dominate the Pro-Am class on Sunday.

Trevor Alves Memorial Lap Family
A Memorial Lap in the name of Trevor Alves was held on Sunday immediately after the practice sessions were concluded in rememberance of him & his life

Many fans were in attendance for round 8 as the weather was near perfect with no humidity and clear blue skies. A memorial lap was dedicated to the life of former NEATV-MX Amateur racer Trevor Alves, who passed away in late July in a motorcycle accident.

Pro ATV Motos

In Moto One of the Pro Production class it was the Yamaha of Jasmin Plante out front taking the holeshot followed by KTM’s Michael Pilotte and Can-Am’s Joe Haavisto. As the Pro pack round the fourth corner and launched up over the first inner-double, NEATV-MX President Howard Payne elected to call a restart to the race. The reason being - starting gate malfunction. At the start of the first Pro moto, the gate had become hung-up and was forced to be dropped manually, this created an unfair starting advantage and too much time was wasted on the gate.

The race was restarted and this time it was the Walsh Honda of Jason Connell ripping the holeshot by edging out Michael Pilotte and Joe Haavisto. Following the top three out of the gate were Golden West Cycle’s Rich Stambach, Randy Lehr who would be racing for Southside Polaris in-place of Bobby Ross for this round, Mathieu Deroy, Nate Morello, Jason Dunkelberger, and Vinny Mofford.

Michael Pilotte was on a mission after securing a top 5 start two times within the same race and was set on being on the podium at his home track of Capeway. He did just that as he went on to take first overall in the Pro Class by going 2-3 on the day. In Pro Moto one he was second out of the gate, right behind Jason Connell but was quickly overtaken by Joe Haavisto just before the end of lap one. Pilotte stayed tight to Haavisto for the entire race and was laying in wait for his opportunity to strike and that moment came on lap seven as Pilotte made a flying pass on Haavisto to take over the second place position and ride it out for the next 3 laps.

Michael Pilotte - KTM 450SX ATV
DRT / KTM's Michael Pilotte went 2-3 in the Pro class on Sunday to take home his second overall win of the season - a wrist injury has hampered his season between rounds 3 & 7 but Pilotte was on the top of his game at Capeway for round 8

In Pro Moto two, Pilotte was again second out of the gate aboard his DRT KTM ATV, this time right behind the Can-Am of Cody Miller. Pilotte was right behind Miller for the entire second moto but as the pair were leading out front, it was the Yamaha of Jasmin Plante slowly creeping up behind and putting on a charge. By the end of the eighth lap, Plante would be able to make it around Pilotte to bump him back to third place before the checkered flag flew only two laps later.

Nevertheless, Pilotte’s third place finish in Moto Two was still good enough to give him the overall with a 2-3 set of finishes. “The track was really quite bad and didn’t offer a lot of technical stuff like I like. My DRT KTM kept me up front and never let me down the entire race, I felt good coming into this race and I’m really happy to come away with the overall!,” said Pilotte happily after the event.
