Clifford, PA – Round seven of the 2010 New England ATV
Motocross Series headed to Hurricane Hills MX
Park in Clifford, Pennsylvania which saw hot weather
and even hotter racing action. This was the first
time this series has headed to this track in Eastern
Pennsylvania and the riders knew what they were
in for with the large uphill and downhill jumps.

A
few NEATV-MX regulars were caught in the
act of being slightly bored during practice
day but as soon as the owner of Hurricane
Hills MX Park Joe, fired up his H2O Bigfoot
to do some watering and track preperation
the fans cheered him on in excitement

With heavy rains on Friday night and into the
early morning the track was saturated during
Saturday’s practices but became perfectly
tacky partway through the day and into Sunday’s
race day.
The Texas Invasion began Saturday on the NEATV-MX
series as Factory Yamaha’s Thomas Brown,
and Can-Am’s Cody Miller were both heavily
present on both the Pro and Pro-Am podiums at
the end of the day. Thomas Brown swept both
the Pro and Pro-Am podiums going 1-1 in both
classes while Cody Miller took over 3rd place
overall in both classes for the day
At the start of the first Pro moto, the gate
was packed with many local racers with the likes
of Randy Lehr, Steve Dibble, and Nick Moser,
and also the addition of Thomas Brown, and Pat
Brown.
The Pro racers screamed off the line with DRT/KTM’s
Michael Pilotte taking the holeshot and leading
the pack up the first hill and over the big
table-top. Following Pilotte out of the holeshot
was Thomas Brown, Nate Morello, Rich Stambach,
Steve Dibble, and South African racer Brian
Baragwanath.

DRT/KTM's
Michael Pilotte launched off the line
and secured the Pro Moto one holeshot
with ease |
Unfortunately for Can-Am racers Joe Haavisto
and Cody Miller, they would get tangled together
off the start and be sent to the back of the
pack after they both had to get off their quads
to wrestle them free.

#22
Cody Miller & #1 Joe Haavisto got
caught up with one another in the Pro
Moto one holeshot and had to wrestle their
quads free, luckily they both got out
in a reasonable time which allowed Miller
to chase down the rest of the pack

Michael
Pilotte was on the move in Moto one as
he was outrunning Yamaha's Thomas Brown
who was nipping at his heals for the first
4 laps |
Pilotte and Brown battled hard up front for over half of the 8-lapper race and
pushed eachother up over the steep up and downhill
sections of the track. The battle for the 4th,
5th, and 6th place spots were raging as well as
DRT/KTM’s Vinny Mofford was trailing behind
Dibble and Baragwanath for much of the first half
of the race but would be bumped back to 8th place
for moto one as Cody Miller put in a hard Charge
up to 6th place during the moto.
Thomas Brown’s trek from Texas to Hurricane
Hills was said to be practice for the AMA National
Pro ATV racer and in the end it was, but his
double class wins did not come without a fight.
Brown had his hands full with NEATV veteran
Michael Pilotte as the pair blasted each berm,
conquered each jump, and pulled away from the
rest of the Pro pack. With Brown closing in
to within striking distance just after the finish
line section, Brown made his move on the outside
of Pilotte with a bar-to-bar pass on the first
of the two elevator jumps going up the hill
and onto the flat-track section.
|
Yamahas'
Thomas Brown made a secure pass on KTM
mounted Pilotte to take over first place
while going over the first of 2 elevator
jumps after the finish line section |
Once in the lead, Brown was able to put valuable time between himself and the
rest of the field to go on and take his first
win of the day. “ Yeah, Mike and I got into
it a little bit in that bottom corner before I
made the pass, but it’s all good now, no
hard feelings. That’s just racing in the
Pro class,” said Brown after the race.
In Pro moto two the story was much the same
with Pilotte taking the holeshot except this
time Brown was forced to work his way around
Pilotte, Joe Haavisto, and Randy Lehr to take
over the lead. He did just that before the checkered
flag flew to take his second Pro Class win of
the day and of course, the overall, aboard his
Yamaha ATV.
