Wallkill, NY - The New England
ATV Motocross Championship Series kicked off this
past weekend in Wallkill, New York at the historic
Walden Motocross track where DRT/KTM’s Mike
Pilotte smoked the competition to take dual wins
in the Open Pro and Pro-am classes.
Saturday’s practice day was filled with
fantastic weather and all the new riders and
teams were out in full force dialing in their
quads for Sunday’s race day. Everyone
knew that rain was in the forecast for the weekend
but when it didn’t rain on Saturday; people’s
hopes seemed to rise for a dry race weekend.
Unfortunately, the perfectly tacky track on
Saturday turned into a slick, thick, muddy mess
on race day after it rained all night and continued
that way the entire race day. Because of the
weather, the races were cut down to a one-moto,
winner-take-all format. Knowing this, the racers
were even more eager to get off the line and
attempt to be the first to the holeshot.

Sunday
was a different story as the fans switched
their shorts & flip-flops to rain
coats, umbrellas, pants, and boots |
Despite the soggy conditions,
DRT/KTM’s Michael Pilotte put on an impressive
show of speed, control and confidence, on his
DASA powered KTM 450SX, as he blew past the
other riders, taking the holeshot. Easing up
on corners and riding smart, he held his line
successfully for all eight laps to take the
season opener win. “I felt great and my
KTM felt very well the whole time during the
race “I’m in great shape this season
and with the help of DRT and KTM, we are the
perfect combination,” Pilotte said

Following suit and putting the
pressure on Pilotte however, was top Canadian
Can-Am DS450 racer, Richard Pelchat. Looking
physically stronger than ever, Pelchat was on
the gas and reeled Pilotte in, keeping him in
his sights for the remainder of the race, but
in the end, Pelchat could not get close enough
to make a secure pass. Finishing in the second
spot, Pelchat was very happy with his race.
“I’m not very good at mud races,
but I had fun at this track. I got a good start
in the race but it’s difficult to win
without getting the holeshot, especially with
the mud, and not being able to practice yesterday”
said Pelchat, who plans to be back for round
four on June 6th at the historic sand track,
MotoX 338 in Southwick, MA.
