Lempster, NH - Kawasaki Monster
Energy’s Joe Haavisto claimed a dual Pro
and Pro-am win this weekend at round three of
the New England ATV Motocross series, leaving
little doubt that he has every intention of retaining
his championship title in both classes.
Track conditions were good for the third race
of the series as rain had fallen the day before
to make for excellent traction off the starting
line and although the track got a bit rough
throughout the day, it didn’t seem to
bother Joe Haavisto much.

In
Moto 2, Joe Haavisto was once again battling
his way to the front, but this time, he
caught & passed #8 Michael Pilotte
to claim the 2nd Moto Win & the Overall,
but he remains 6 points behind Pillote
in the Open Pro points race |
Haavisto shot off the gate in fourth place
and began to make a charge to the front. As
Haavisto was gaining ground on leader Michael
Pilotte, his quad began to give him problems.
Haavisto rode it out and ended the first Pro
moto in second place. Lucky for Haavisto, the
NEATV-MX does not follow the same rules as the
AMA/ATVA and allows for riders to switch bikes
if they wish. Haavisto was able to switch out
his quad and come back in moto two to and claim
the win.
Haavisto’s 2-1 finishes secured him the
overall Pro class win. “Everything went
pretty good today. I got good starts and good
finishes, so I am pretty happy,” said
Haavisto.

Michael Pilotte also had a decent go of things.
Pilotte, who has been getting amazing starts
this season, grabbed the holeshot in the first
Pro moto and began to pull away with Haavisto
right behind him. The pair checked out and at
one point Pilotte and Haavisto were 13 seconds
ahead of the rest of the pack.
Pilotte rode a successful moto, holding off
the Kawasaki rider all the way to the finish
line to take the first moto win. In the second
Pro moto, Pilotte was second ff the line behind
Haavisto. Pilotte kept pace with Haavisto for
most of the moto before Haavisto began to increase
is lead. Pilotte would finish in a comfortable
second place.
