Wallkill, NY (4/26/2009) - The
season opener of the 2009 NEATV Motocross series
kicked off with some great racing action as previous
series pro champions, Joe Haavisto, Nate Morello
and Matt Pomeroy all returned to the series sporting
factory rides, but it was Monster Energy Kawasaki’s
Joe Haavisto that took a double win in both the
Open Pro and Open Pro-am classes.

With
perfect conditions for ATV racing, nearly
350 racers signed up for the opening round
of the New England ATV Motocross Series
at Walden MX Park, and they were all treated
to a great facility for racing
|
Walden MX was the hosting facility where things
were really heating up. The hottest temperatures
so far this year were on tap, with highs in
the 90’s, many racers were feeling the
effects, but that didn’t ruin the excitement
as many were eagerly anticipating the increased
competition that was expected.

#75 Joe Haavisto, kicks off the 2009 with
Open Pro Class Win |
Current Pro and Pro-am champ, Joe Haavisto proved
that he was not about to let his championship
title go with out a fight. In moto one, Haavisto
was up against some stiff competition as he came
off the line in 3rd place behind DRT Motorsports’
Michael Pilotte and Can-Am’s Richard Pelchat.
As Pilotte and Pelchat battled for first, Haavisto
saw an opportunity. “I had been following
Pilotte and Pelchat for several laps and when
there were only two laps to go, I had a good opportunity
and I made the pass on both of them,” said
Haavisto. Haavisto’s lead would not last
however, as Pelchat made the pass on Haavisto
to take the moto one win.

off the line and soon took the lead away from
KTM’s Nate Morello. Once in the lead,
Haavisto checked out and crossed the finish
line in an unchallenged first place. Haavistos
2-1 finishes gave him the overall win for the
Open Pro class and a jump start on points in
defending his championship. “It’s
definitely tougher out there this year, so I’m
really happy to start the season off with a
win,” Haavisto stated.
