(5/18/2012) –
The Johnstons Toyota round 2 of the NE EDT Series
kicked off Friday night with an open practice
at Oakland Valley Speedway to get dialed in on
the new track. Proud sponsor, Johnstons Toyota
pulled in 100 entries with nearly a full gate
in both Production and Pro/Am racing, sure to
be exciting. New for 2012, the Production class
is a 100% amateur money class, along with a $100
holeshot award; giving the amateurs a good fair
shot at winning some cash! Round 2 also sponsored
by CV4 Products, will be giving the top 3 in all
classes gift certificates, 50% off for first,
40% for second and 30% for third.
At the riders meeting NE EDT President Eric Jennings,
pulled out of a hat and the 70cc class was up
for a $50 holeshot award.
Pro/Am heat one of three started off the night.
Brandon Gates pulled the holeshot and lead the
entire heat earning the win, with Michael Houghton
second.
Pro/Am heat two had a heated battle between Factory
ESJ rider Andrew Evanyke pulling the holeshot
all while Eric Jennings was glued to Evanyke’s
grab bar. On lap 5, both Evanyke and Jennings
swapped option lines. Evanyke making a mistake,
over jumping into a right hairpin and getting
tangled in some Fly Racing hay bales allowed Jennings
to pass by for the heat win.
None other than Roberts Racing/Baldwin’s
Brian Ace showing perfection from start to finish,
taking the final Pro/Am heat.
All 15 riders in the Pro/Am main were lined
up and ready to go. The $100 Johnstons holeshot
went to Roberts/Baldwin’s Brian Ace, Gates
second, and Jennings third. Ace pulled a comfortable
lead of 2.00 seconds while Gates was getting hounded
by Jennings. Jennings applied pressure to Gates
for the first half of the race until the green
machine of Justin Frindt joined in making it a
3 way battle for second. Frindt getting by Jennings
after following Gates through the option line,
Jennings fired back with the attempt of passing
Frindt on the outside to stay on the podium but
Jennings could not make it stick. After 15 lap,
the Pro/Am main finished with Ace as your winner
and Gates and Frindt on the final spot of the
podium Pro heat number one was local Brandon Gates
grabbing another holeshot with Houghton second
and Macgregor third. After 8 laps, the order didn’t
change, Gates landing the heat win.apped option
lanes trying to make the move for the win. After
20 laps, it was the 2011 defending champion Brain
Ace as your winner, with Eric Jennings finishing
a close second and Brandon Gates on the final
spot of the podium.
