Plymouth, IN (10/9/2015) - The 2015 WORCS Mid America Cross Country racing series held their makeup date for round six of the series during the first weekend of October just outside of the small town of Plymouth Indiana. The Plymouth Sandpit Showdown was sure to be a rough one as the week leading up to the event had been moderately cold and forecasting some nasty weather, however as the event day rolled around, the hurricane-induced wind picked up even more than expected to around twenty miles per hour and the skies opened up just before the ATV and UTV events making for a very chilly and wet race.

In the Pro quad event, the skies opened up just before the green flag flew, giving the course a very soupy topcoat of sandy grease giving the racers some serious challenges out on the track. Braden Nichols was able to snag the holeshot and take the early lead but Austin Gourley took over the lead within the first quarter of the first lap and go on for the win.

Southbend Racing / Mom and Dad / Spyder Graphix’s Austin Gourley got off to a great start in second place behind Nichols and was hot on his bumper coming into the tight left hand-right hand holeshot chicane. Gourley clicked away the gears aboard his MAXXIS tire equipped TRX450R and slipped passed Nichols heading into the woods to start the first lap. Within a few laps Gourley had a sizable lead over Nichols and was having a great race for himself. Closing in onto the latter part of the race, Gourley decided he liked his lead so he figured he’d add some time to it as well by putting his head down and charging even hard toward the end of the race.

Austin Gourley was able to take over the lead on the first lap and never looked back to clinch the win in the MAXC Racing Pro Class

“I had a great race out there today and the track got super rough which made for a challenging race. I got around Nichols on the first few turns then he got back by me and then caught a tree and sent him off the machine so I was able to get by him again. I caught some trees too but never crashed which was good. The sand whoops got huge but my Elka suspension soaked them up and I just pushed through them and concentrated on getting the checkered flag. I’m stoked to get a win here and I’m looking forward to the final two rounds,” said Gourley.

Braden Nichols finished second at the MAXC Sand Pit Showdown, however Nichols still holds down the points lead by twenty eight points

Derisi Racing / Custom AXIS / MAXXIS Tire’s Braden Nichols got off to a great start by snagging the Pro row holeshot and quickly began battling with Gourley who was right behind him. Nichols dropped the position to Gourley after a few corners but then got him back in the woods.
