Suger Grove, PA - The 8th Annual Matt Bartosek Celebration race was held this past weekend at the Mapleshade MX track in Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania. The weekend would be kicked off as per tradition on Saturday with an open practice session followed by the ever-delicious “Benefit Buffet Dinner”.

This year was a bit different as not only was Matt Bartosek’s life celebrated but another fallen rider’s as well, Angie Maher. Maher, who ran the Women’s class in the New England ATV Series tragically lost her life only one week prior to this event during an MX race. The Bartosek crew took it upon their caring selves to put together a 50/50 raffle for the Maher family along with other benefiting prizes.

As autumn approaches the North East, it’s first stop was truly at the Mapleshade MX compound. With gusty winds and palpable rolling fog during Sunday’s first Pro ATV Feature, Joshua Upperman was the man to first emerge from the cloudy starting area. Upperman would take both moto wins at Mapleshade and bring home the Mushin Racing $1,000 dollar Pro Purse on his Baldwin Motorsports Honda. Following Upperman on the podium would be Marc Winchester finishing 2-3, and in third place would be Derek Swartfager finishing 3-4 on the day.

The 8th Annual Matt Bartosek Celebration ATV Motocross Race was once again held at Maple Shade MX Track in Sugar Grove, PA which would see #20 AMA ATV MX Pro Josh Upperman pull a double win for the ATV Pro Feature after he claimed both holeshots as well

Pro moto one rolled off the gate and would see Josh Upperman command and early lead as his Baldwin powered Honda rocketed off the line. Upperman would do battle with Kawasaki mounted Joel Hetrick as they came through the first turn with Upperman sticking to his line and taking the holeshot. Upperman, Winchester, and Hetrick would all be running closely for the first lap until Hetrick would run into some mechanical difficulties and be forced to retire from the race. This would allow Upperman to continue the race, with no pressure and take the win

#20 Josh Upperman won his first "Bartosek" race at Mapleshade back in 2006 & 2010 was the year he would pull his repeat. Upperman would win both moto holeshots & come away with a 1-1 set for 1st place overall on the day, the $1000 Mushin Racing Purse & a trophy bigger than most man can carry!

Moto two would again see the red rider come out the starting gate in the first place position and scream through the first turn with the holeshot. Upperman would then lead the remainder of the 10-lapper uncontested. Although Hetrick was determined to get up front, he would push up to second place and be in waiting if Upperman were to make a mistake. “This is exciting to take the overall win here at the Bartosek. We’re racing for a good cause and there was a lot of goo riders out here this weekend and im thankful i was able to take the win,” stated Upperman after the race.

Marc Winchester was able to secure a second place overall finish at the Bartosek by going 2-3 on the day. In moto one, he too would battle with Joel Hetrick for much of the first part of the race until Hetrick shut down. Winchester would go on to finish second in the moto.

Marc Winchester would put his Honda TRX450R ATV in the 2nd place position during the Pro ATV Features as he was running right behind Upperman for the first moto but would fall to Hetrick during the second moto - nevertheless his 2-3 set would be good enough for 2nd place overall

Moto two would be much for the same for Winchester except this time Hetrick would have his sites set on the front of the pack. Winchester would hold off Hetrick until the last three laps or so of the race when we would become exhausted and Hetrick would slip by. Regardless, Winchester’s third place finish in the second moto still had him sitting in the money section with second place overall.
