2016 King of the Hammers
UTV Race Report
::Continued::
Guthrie challenged Van de Loo for most of the
race, but repairs to his broken suspension ate
up nearly an hour of time. The fact he finished
in the top five shows just how far ahead he was
in the end.

ITP / Super
ATV's Mitch Guthrie started on front row
& quickly took over the lead
|
“The course was super fun,” said Guthrie. “It
was a lot faster course. Blake passed me in some
tight stuff. He was just going. I didn’t want
to tear my car up, so I backed off. Then I’d catch
him in the desert sections. We reeled them in
on the dry lake, but then we broke. He’s fast
for an old guy.”

6 Times King
of the Hammers Champion finished in the
5th spot after battling for the lead most
of the race, but a broken heim joint slowed
his charge
|
Arctic Cat’s Robby Gordon competed in his first
ever side by side race ever, driving a development
program Arctic Cat. Gordon got stuck in one of
the rock sections, finished 21st, and then headed
off to Parker 425 in Arizona to set the fastest
qualifying time for the Best in the Desert Trophy
Truck event.

Robby Gordon
made his UTV racing debut in the Arctic
Cat Wildcat 1000 at the King of the Hammers
|
“We’re really stoked we were able to finish,”
said Gordon. “We were able to test a lot of components
and we learned a lot here. The King of the Hammers
is probably the toughest race there is as far
as components. To run the whole thing without
breaking an axle or a CV joint, I’m really proud
of the way the components performed. This was
my first side-by-side race. I’m happy to do it
with Arctic Cat and try to progress forward.”
