– The third round of the GNCC Racing
series took place this past weekend in Morganton,
North Carolina. Can-Am’s Robert Smith
earned the win in the GNCC Pro 4x4 Class with
Kevin Trantham and Bryan Buckhannon placing
second and third. Angel Knox earned her second
win in the WXC Class as well as Cody Collier
in the School Boy Class.

With intense rainfall the night before and into the morning, the wet and muddy track did not detour the exciting racing that took place at the Steele Creek GNCC. With its long history of GNCC racing at this location, it would be the first time for the newly formed GNCC Pro 4x4 Class to race this historic track.

Pro 4x4 Class winner, Robert Smith, got of to a mid pack start at round three and with every passing lap, Smith would gradually move forward a couple spots. On the third and final lap, Smith’s consistency would finally pay off as he took over the lead to earn the GNCC Pro 4x4 Class and the overall win.

“Everything just went well today and especially to get the overall again and the win in the GNCC Pro 4x4 Class. On the last lap we were all right there, I just tried to pick good lines I never had any issues getting stuck. I just slowly picked everyone off and I grabbed the lead about three or four miles from the finish. I couldn’t have asked for a better race,” explained Robert Smith of his win at Steele Creek GNCC

Kevin Trantham got off to a great start by taking the holeshot and the early lead in the Pro 4x4 Class. Trantham turned consistent laps each time around as he battled to retake the lead.

“It was a very muddy day. I started out strong by getting the holeshot. I just couldn’t get back round Robert we just ran out of track with the short race. Pretty happy though to get a second place finish and second overall. All-in-all it was a good day,” said Kevin Trantham
