Snowshoe, WV -
When you think of GNCC racing, the majority of
the time that thought creates a vision of rolling
farm land, row after row of racing rigs, and the
fellowship that is inherent when a few hundred
racers hang out to discuss life’s enjoyments
and of course the racing at hand. Those thoughts
get put on hold when we discuss round #10 of the
Can Am GNCC series as it is held at West Virginias
premier Ski facility, Snow Shoe Mountain Ski Resort.
The fields are replaced with asphalt and side
walks, the smell of campfires and dinner cooking
replaced by restaurants and stores that lay in
the great shadows cast by majestic hotels and
lodging!
This is not your typical GNCC, and it isn’t
designed to be. Everything about this event
is different, and for some it is a huge bonus
to have the event held at such a facility. One
pro rider remarked how cool it is to roll out
of bed at 8 am and stroll down to their pit
without the drive from a motel. Luxury is at
a premium for sure!

The Snowshoe
GNCC is like no other GNCC race with
the racing starting on the paved road
in rows of 5 in a Grand Prix style start
|
The second biggest change at this round is
the start. No ten seconds call, in fact not
even the eerie silence that befalls the monstrous
thunder that occurs when a row of GNCC racers
machines fire to life and send a thunderous
exhaust note across the landscape. Here, it
is a grand prix style start that has rows of
riders lined up with engines running and every
few seconds another row is sent off, down the
asphalt roadway lined by fans and spectators
until they are finally directed to familiar
terrain and boy does snowshoe offer some differing
terrain!
With vast elevation changes, rocks, bogs, hill
climbs and even an ominous fog that enveloped
the morning race, there was something for everyone,
whether you liked it or not! For the GNCC XC1
class, racing the clock would be just as important
as ever and even more so as starting a row or
two back meant that a few saved seconds could
get you in front of your competitor even if
you couldn’t pass him!

Afternoon ATV Race Report:

FRE /KTM backed Adam McGill found all the changes
at this round to his liking as he poured on the
power and conquered all comers by winning the
XC1 Pro class. McGill started from row 1 and battled
hard with Chris Borich before taking firm control
of the lead and riding to the checkered flag for
the win. Near the end of the race, McGill would
see pressure from 8 time GNCC champion Bill Ballance
but put his head down and retained the lead. This
win marks McGill’s 4th win on the season
and helped regain some lost ground in the points
chase after having mixed results the past several
rounds.

Adam McGill
& Chris Borich battled for the lead
into the 3rd lap, but Borich picked
a bad line, which sent him back several
positions as Mcgill was now feeling
the pressure from Bill Ballance
|
KTM's Adam
McGill secured a 2008 leading 4th Overall
Win, which catapulted the early season
leader back into the 2nd Spot, but McGill
is still 35 ponts behind Ballance with
only 3 rounds left for 2008
