Round #1 - Links

Sioux Falls, SD (6/3/2014) - The 2014 Extreme Dirt Track ATV racing series fired back up this weekend in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the Sioux Valley Cycle Club as rounds one and two were held at this beautiful facility. Racers filed into the bowl-style track parking areas Thursday morning and began prepping their machines for practice that day as this was a Friday and Saturday race combo weekend. Two fan-favorites and long-time EDT contestants, Brad Riley and Chuckie Creech, both hailing from North Carolina, had truck issues getting to this race and were forced to make means of getting here. With only a few hours of sleep, both racers arrived in time for Friday’s racing action, showing the true grit of all racers in the EDT Series.

The Pro main event was on the line for the first time since last season and the sixteen entries were all vying for the top spot heading into the first corner. With a big sweeping left-hander turning quickly into two large, impressive option lanes, it was anyone’s guess who would come out in the front of the pack.

Michael Coburn Holeshot

PEP / Hoosier / Rage ATV / Goodman Racing’s Michael Coburn was the man to beat for round one in the Pro class as he came out of the Holeshot with a commanding lead heading into the ever-important first turn. Coburn slid his way through the left and then the right turn and then back into the sweeping left and came out with the lead to set the pace for the rest of the twenty-lap race.

From there, the pack immediately behind Coburn, which consisted of three-time defending Pro champion Harold Goodman and Pro-Am Unlimited champion Brad Riley, jockeyed for position behind Coburn as the trifecta began to pull from the rest of the sixteen racers. Coburn, with his newly designed, aluminum-clad Honda 450R was out front and setting a blazing pace. He remained unscathed for the remainder of the event and charged on to take the first Pro win of the season.

“Right away it was kind of hard to see how fast to go and pace myself and I looked behind a few times and Harold (Goodman) was right there with Brad (Riley) behind him. I got a little wide in one corner and Harold got up next to me and we raced for a little there and then Brad got around him and from there he was right on me. I just rode my own race and tried to stick to my lines and stay smooth. I really like this track with the high speed, the banked corners, and a lot of different grooves that you can run. I’m really happy with this result and it should be a great season,” said Coburn happily.

Brad Riley EDT Racing

Brad Riley worked his way into the top three before making the pass on Goodman for second place

MAXXIS / PEP / DASA / Houser’s Brad Riley, despite his troubles getting to South Dakota, showed he had the will and the speed to get on the podium at round one. Riley came off the line with a great start riding in within the top five and from there was able to work his way up into third place behind Goodman who was riding in second place and pressuring Coburn for the lead.
