Polkton, NC - The weather was hot
in North Carolina for the season opener of the 2010
AMA Extreme Dirt Track National Series, but the
action was even hotter on the track as Brad Riley
took the win in the Pro, Pro-Lites, and Pro-am classes
to be the first racer ever to score a hat trick
in the series.

Robbins Ridge
ATV Extreme Dirt Track proved to be a
racer favorite at the opening round of
the 2010 season
|
Robbins Ridge, owned by Ted Robbins, was the
hosting facility for the first round and it was
by far one of the best facilities the series has
traveled to, and also one of the longest tracks,
with the Pro class running lap times in the mid
50 second range. The well groomed, red clay track
was a new addition for the National event and
incorporated several elevation changes, off camber
sections, 180 degree turns, high speed straight-aways,
and table top jump. Many racers likened it to
Ashtabula, which is a favorite among TT racers.
Despite the high temps and windy conditions, dust
was never an issue as workers kept the track watered
and well groomed throughout the event.
|
|
The
track held up extremely well to high winds
& temps in the 90's thanks to Ted
Robbins staying on top of the track because
as soon as the dust would start to become
an issue, Ted headed out with the water
truck and also would sweep the dust off
the track, which really helped without
having to spend time running in the track
|
The turnout for round one on Mother’s day
weekend was decent with around 200 entries, but
there were several pros missing from the lineup
including Harold Goodman, who will be running
the GNCC and motocross this year, since the Extreme
Dirt Track schedule overlaps with several rounds
of the Motocross Nationals. Kendall Webb, Darin
Ogden, and Zac Willett were also absent, but defending
pro champ Michael Coburn was ready for action
as was Chris Gary, who had taken a three year
absence from racing the Extreme Dirt Track series
.
