Greenbrier, AR -The 2008 Duro ATVA Extreme
Dirt Track Nationals kicked off this weekend in
Greenbrier, Arkansas at Twin Creeks Raceway, and
despite gas prices soaring to record highs, nearly
300 ATV racers signed up for the opening round of
racing.
Unfortunately, ATV racers weren’t alone
on their trip to Arkansas as a line of severe
thunderstorms also had its sights on the southern
state, and heavy rains, high winds, and tornadoes
swept through the state on Friday. Fortunately,
the Twin Creeks facility was spared from the brunt
of the storms with a tornado touching down only
a few miles from the race track causing significant
damage.
Even with the rain, the Reynolds family wasted
no time in preparing the track for practice on
Friday night, which aloud racers to dial in their
new setups before the first rounds of Heats Saturday
morning. “The track was a little wet on
Friday, but they went out and groomed it and on
Saturday, the track was in great condition for
the races,” said Harold Goodman, who is
the current defending EDT Pro Champ.
Absent from the Pro line up this year were Tim
Farr, Shane Hitt, Frank Batista and Daryl Rath,
which opened up the competition for some of the
up and coming pro riders. Batista and Rath were
originally contracted to race the Quad Terrain
Challenge in the now defunct WPSA Series, so there
may still be a chance these two may be seen at
future races. Even though some of the top names
were not there, there was still 17 racers signed
up for the Pro class with Mitch Reynolds and Harold
Goodman winning the Heat races leading up to the
Pro Main.

#708 Harold Goodman is one of the few Pro
ATV Racers to run both the Extreme Dirt
Track Series & the AMA ATV Motocross
Series as well where Harold is currently
6th place in points |
As the Pro class blazed off the starting line, it
was Harold Goodman that was first into the left
hand sweeper grabbing the Holeshot, followed closely
by Mitch Reynolds, who earned the 1st gate pick
in qualifiers, Brad Riley and Chuckie Creech. Reynolds
was on Goodman’s grab bar applying the pressure
and waiting for an opportunity to go for the pass.
“I was leading for the first 5 laps and then
I made a mistake,” said Goodman.
Goodman’s bobble allowed Reynolds to make
his move on the inside line and take over the lead.
Despite intense pressure from Goodman, Reynolds
was able to stay focused and take his lead all the
way to the finish line, claiming his first ever
Pro National win. “It’s been a dream
of mine for a long time. It feels great to take
my first National win, now I want to keep repeating
it,” said Reynolds.
