For the first time ever, ATV racers were invited to the Edge of Summer MX Event held on August 28th. The Soaring Eagle Resort is located in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. The event featured some of the nations top professional and amateur racers on both two and four wheels, and it was a great step towards further ATV Motocross exposure and support. Big jumps and tricky whoop sections really showed what the ATV racers could do. The ATV riders competed on Friday, with the motorcycle racers competed on Saturday and Sunday.

JB Racing / Can-Am’s Jeffrey Rastrelli came away from the Edge of Summer MX event with the overall win at this ground- breaking event. “The first moto went really well. I battled with John Natalie and Thomas Brown throughout the whole race. Thomas ended up pulling away from us a little, but John and I had a really fierce battle. I didn’t get the best start, so I really had to work my way up to catch John. I couldn’t quite get the job done to get around him,” said Rastrelli, who finished third in moto one.

The second moto proved to be even more exciting for Rastrelli. “I had an even worse start, I came out around sixth or seventh. I worked my way up and had a really fierce battle with Nick Gennusa, Ronnie Higgerson, Thomas Brown, and John Natalie. We were all going at it pretty hard,” said Rastrelli. In a very intense end of the moto battle for first place, Rastrelli made contact with Natalie, and ended up getting past him for first in the moto, which gave him his first overall pro win.

Finishing second overall was Motosport.com’s John Natalie in his first race back after a serious crash and injury back in May. “Moto one went pretty good. I came out second in the holeshot. I hung with Joel Hetrick for a few laps but then I started to get tired so I just tried to settle into a pace that would keep me there. I ended up getting passed by Brown towards the end of the race,” said Natalie. After Hetrick had mechanical issues in the lead, which took him out of the race, Natalie was able to clinch a second place finish in moto one. In the second moto, Natalie was leading until the last corner of the last lap when Rastrelli made contact with him. Both riders stalled their bikes, but Rastrelli got going again first, so Natalie took second in the moto and second overall.
