Baldwin/Fox/Fly's
Greg Gee takes home the 2010 Canada Cup
victory in Parry Sound - His & Ontario's
first ever Canada Cup Win! |
Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada –
The Canadian Motorsport Racing Corporation held
their season finale of the 2010 Canada Cup at the
OCD Parry Sound race facility in Parry Sound, Ontario
on August 28-29th.
Throughout the history of the ATV MX Canada Cup,
no one outside of the province of Quebec was able
to secure an overall victory to claim the cup
and call it there own. That is, until this year.
Greg Gee, the Baldwin Motorsports backed Ontarian,
laid claim to his first ever Canada Cup and would
bring the cup home to Ontario for the first time
in history as well! Hot weather and hot racing
action was on the plate for the final rounds of
the Cup at Parry Sound as the racers were laying
it on the line in an all-out battle for the prestigious
honour!
Pro ATV moto one on Saturday would get underway
and see the three top-guns of the Canada Cup,
Jasmin Plante, Richard Pelchat, and Greg Gee all
come out swinging in the holeshot and fighting
for an early lead. As the racers rounded the first
few tight turns it would be Pelchat with the early
lead followed by Plante and Gee.

Can-Am's
Richard Pelchat would rip the moto one
holeshot on Saturday with Plante, James
Bank, Mathieu Deroy, & Gre Gee closely
in tow around the first bend
|
Richard Pelchat, seven-time Canada Cup champion
would go 1-1 on Saturday at Parry Sound as he
came out swinging in the first moto and come away
with nearly a 16 second lead over Plante and Gee.
|
|
Richard Pelchat
had his sights set on the victory during
Saturday's motos as he cruised on to a
16+ second lead in the first moto &
the second moto was nearly a repeat except
he was not able to run away with such
a big lead but still came away with another
win giving him a 1-1 set on the day and
pushing him to the points lead heading
into Sunday
|
For Moto two on Saturday, Pelchat would again
come away with the victory but this time he would
have to get around Plante before continuing on
and winning the moto for his second win of the
day. These two wins, along with his dominating
performance at X-Town the week prior would put
him in the lead for points heading into Sunday
which would be the tell-all day to whom the Cup
would go to!
Jasmin Plante would be the runner-up to Pelchat
as he went 2-2 on the day being edged out by Pelchat,
and being chased down by Greg Gee each time. Moto
one would see Plante in a three-way battle for
the lead but would soon drop back a few seconds
on the single-lined track as Pelchat poured on
the coal and ran away with the lead. Plante would
finish in 2nd place for moto one and begin preparing
for his second moto only a couple short hours
away.

Ultimate ATV's
Jasmin Plante would play tag with Greg
Gee for both of Saturday's motos enroute
to his 2nd place finish in both rounds
- Plante would come bck stronger in the
second outting to remain within a few
seconds of Pelchat who lead for the entire
moto
|
For moto two on Saturday, the Yamaha rider would
again slot in between Pelchat, who was in the
lead, and Gee who would be in third place for
the second time of the day. Plante was in back
in the swing of things for moto two as he seemed
to ride much smoother and narrow the gap between
himself and leader Pelchat. Plante’s 2-2
on the day would give him second overall for Saturday
and edge him a little closer to keeping his 3rd
place in the points standings.
Greg Gee would also come out of the holeshot
for moto one on Saturday in good position slotting
in 3rd place and holding this position for the
entire moto, not being able to get around an aggressive
Plante on the tight track. Gee would never back
down from fighting for position but would not
be able to advance and stay in 3rd before crossing
the line.
|
|
Baldwin Motorsport's
Greg Gee would have to settle for 3rd
place in each moto on Saturday as he would
not be able to find his way around Plante
on the sandy, one-lined track at Parry
Sound - he would then go back to the drawing
board & prepare for his Sunday motos
the next morning
|
For moto two, Gee was again in the top 5 off
the start battling with Deroy and Summers out
of the holeshot but again would slot into third
place before coming back through the mechanic’s
area and up the big step-up. For this moto, the
top three runners, Pelchat, Plante and Gee, would
remain quite close as they rounded the sandy track
in hopes of swapping positions. Unfortunately
for Gee, this moto was a dopelganger of moto one
as he again finished in 3rd place and would be
sitting 7 points outside of first place heading
into Sunday’s pertinent motos
