ATV/Yamaha's Jasmin Plante laid claim to
both Pro ATV overalls at Walton MX by going
2-1 on Saturday and 1-1 on Sunday |
Walton, Ontario, Canada – The Lee Family Farm in Walton,
Ontario Canada played host to rounds four and five
of the Canadian Motocross Racing Coporation’s
2010 season. Quebec’s Jasmin Plante was a
force all weekend taking three of the four wins
in the Pro class followed by currently CMRC Pro
points leader, Ontario’s Greg Gee and in third
place Quebec’s Richard Pelchat.
The
weather for the action packed double-header weekend
was in the high 70’s with a shirt-soaking
85% humidity which had racers not only battling
eachother but the elements as well. Heavy rains
in the days prior to the event left the lower
parts of the track with standing water which caused
course officials to cut out some of the more technical
parts of the track.
This decision would prove to be a deciding factor
in the outcomes of many racers as the track was
now in a condition which proved too easy with
nothing to separate the skills of most racers.

Rainy weather
prior to the ATV MX race at Walton MX
left the track with standing water come
Saturday morning, the water was then pumped
off the track & back into the nearby
ponds but as the racing progressed the
track got incredibly dusty & needed
a watering as well
|
On Saturday’s first Pro moto it was the
Honda of Greg Gee out front taking the holeshot
and leading the Pro pack out onto the dusty course
of Walton MX.
|
Greg Gee ripped
the first Pro moto holeshot on Saturday
& lead for several laps before encountering
a flat tire but was able to get it changed
& come back to take a 7th place finish
|
Following Gee out of the holeshot was the Yamaha
of Jasmin Plante, the Polaris of Dave Munshaw,
and Can-Am’s Richard Pelchat. Through the
first jump and uphill right hander they went with
Pelchat in second place and gaining time on Gee
as they went over the first big downhill triple
with Plante just a few seconds behind as well.
Behind the front trio was the Kawasaki of Mathieu
Deroy being chased down by KTM racers Dillon Elliot
and James Bank.

|
Greg Gee's
first Pro moto got off to a great start
which saw him pull the holeshot &
begin to check out on the rest of the
field when disaster struck with a flat
tire which put him back into 7th place
by the end of the moto after he made a
hard after a new tire & rim were installed
on the quad
|
Gee's
second Pro moto on Saturday was also off
to a great beginning, starting just behind
Plante off the holeshot but again his chances
at a first place were cut short when the
"last lap" white flag was flown
1 & 1/2 minutes too early which cut
the race short |
About one quarter of the way through the 20 minute
moto, the left rear tire of Gee went flat due
to the heavy rocks on the course which allowed
Pelchat to take over the lead and go on for the
win followed by Plante and James Bank. Greg Gee
made the executive decision to pull off and allow
his mechanics install a new rear tire and rim
on his ATV so he could continue to race for the
remaining time. This turned out to be a wise decision
as he able to move back up through the field for
a seventh place finish in moto one and salvage
some much needed points and keep him in the top
spot of the Pro points chase for the Canada Cup.
