Race Report
::Continued::
Polaris / UXC Racing’s Don Higbee teamed up with
GNCC standout Kevin Trantham for the race. The
duo ran well all weekend before finishing second.
The finish put them second in points.
“This was the best we’ve run all year,” said
Higbee. “The Polaris Scrambler ran great. Saturday
was optimal. Today it was just hammered. All in
all, we had a great run. We’re proud of finishing
all four laps. The competition didn’t, but the
rules were in their favor. Kevin really laid down
some fast laps. He was out there a lot and did
great. The other guys that ran with us this year:
Michael Burrows and Michael Swift, they are a
big part of us doing well this year.”
Trantham traded trees, rocks and mud of GNCC
series for the sandy desert this round. He was
quickly at home, though, and put in some great
laps.
“This is totally different than what I’m used
to racing in back east in the woods and trees,”
said Trantham. “It’s super fast out here and dusty.
All in all, we had a good run. We finished well
both days and Polaris worked awesome.”
CT Racing’s Cody Mitchell was glad to put a nearly
decade-long quest to rest by winning the BITD
Championship. Teamed up with David Scott, they
had a multitude of issues both days, but they
did what they had to do to finish and clinch the
title.

“Eight years of trying hard and I finally got
the number one plate,” exclaimed Mitchell. “I’ve
been number two for too many years. It’s very
exciting. I’m glad Dave let me ride with him this
year because I couldn’t beat him. We had some
issues, but we got it fixed and got a finish.”
David Scott said consistency was key to winning
the title this year. With just four rounds, two
with two-day races, there was little room for
error this season.
“We stayed consistent this year,” said Scott.
“We came into the round just having to finish.
So we had to push it across the line on Saturday
and we did what we had to do on Sunday to finish.
Cody is a great rider and a great partner. He
never crashes and never tears up the bike. He
just does what he has to do. Allen Knowles at
CT Racing is awesome. He does so much and we couldn’t
do it without him. We only had four rounds this
year, so you couldn’t have a bad race. It worked
out, but it was definitely nerve racking for a
moment. We’re planning to return next year to
defend our championship.”
With ATV season in the books, the next BITD race
is the Pahrump Nugget 250 in Nevada. That race
will feature car, truck and UTVs December 1-4.
