Parker, Arizona - The 2010 BITD
series kicked off with the Parker 250 and saw Can-Am
Motoworks’ Josh Frederick and Dillon Zimmerman
take the season opener win, while the Craig Christy
team of David Scott and Cody Mitchell claimed the
number two spot in the Quad Pro class.
This year’s course was 83 miles in length
and set up to be a little slower paced than previous
tracks, but that didn’t seem to slow down
Frederick and Zimmerman. Frederick, who is one
of the best in the business when it comes to desert
racing, was happy to get in some serious seat
time before the start of the WORCS series. “This
is great practice for me and helps me to prepare
for WORCS. I really want to take back that championship
this year and these types of races help me to
train and keep my endurance up. To come out here
and take the win is a bonus,” said Frederick.
Zimmerman, who is fairly new to the rigors of
desert racing, was also thankful for the extra
practice. “It’s different from WORCS,
but it’s a lot of fun and it helps for getting
our equipment dialed in,” said Zimmerman.
Frederick and Zimmerman obviously had everything
under control as they rode a steady, fast race
without any major complications. The team finished
the race in a little over five hours, and almost
two minutes in front of the second place Christy
Racing team with a time of 5:21:41.
The Craig Christy team of David Scott and newbie,
Cody Mitchell were the first team to physically
cross the finish line, but when all was said and
done and times were adjusted, they would end their
day in a comfortable second place with a time
of 5:23:21, which puts the team in a position
to possibly take over the points lead at the next
round, as the Frederick/Zimmerman team will not
likely be at all of the BITD events.
The Skat Trak team of Greg Stuart and Nic Granlund,
who are usually front-runners in the Quad Pro
class, encountered a few issues out on the course,
which had them finishing in fourth place in their
class with a time of 5:47:20. “We were a
little disappointed, but we will be back out there
and trying for the win next time,” said
Granlund.
Also on hand for the Parker 250 was Can-Am Warnert
Racing’s 2009 GNCC 4x4 Open Champion, Bryan
Buckhannon accompanied by Richard Goforth. The
duo was piloting a Can-Am Outlander 800R EFI and
took on the Quad Amateur class. The team smoked
the competition by over 10 minutes. “It’s
a lot faster pace than the GNCC, but it was a
lot of fun,” said Buckhannon, who is currently
preparing to defend his GNCC title.
The next round of the 2010 BITD series that will
be including quad classes will be the Silver State
300 on April 23rd - 25th in Mesquite, NV.
