Terrell, Texas
(3/25/2011) - Welcome everyone to the first
race of 2011. ATVCCS is starting its ninth season
of quad cross-country race in the South/Central
part of our nation. What a beautiful weekend it
was for racing, plenty of sunshine and temperatures
in the 70’s.
The Pee Wee course was approximately 8/10 of
a mile long, and provided riders, and spectators
with plenty of action. The terrain was mostly
flat and comprised of hard packed dirt. The trail
weaved in and out of cedar trees and crossed a
power line clearing several times. The main track
was approximately 7.4 miles in length and included
a full size motocross track in addition to two
nice wooded sections. The fastest riders were
able to complete a lap in just less than 19 minutes.
It was nice to see some old faces from the past
as well as some fresh new faces.

Nick
Birmingham took the Pee Wee 12 and under
class Holeshot |
The first race of the weekend was the Pee Wee
12 under class. For the past couple of seasons
this class has been a little on the small size
but today we had a full line of young riders.
Nick Birmingham was the quickest off the line
and nailed the first holeshot of 2011. Just behind
Nick was last year’s defending class champion
Cameron Trimble followed by Allison Howell, Micayla
Jenkins, and Landon Mclendon. By the end of the
first lap Wesley Pruitt had recovered from a poor
start to find himself in the lead. It was reported
however, that Wesley had missed a turn on the
first lap and had to be black flagged on the second
lap. The young rider did not let this setback
ruin his race and quickly set sail again to chase
down the leaders.
Cameron in the meantime had taken the lead from
Nick and was beginning to pull out a small lead
over the field until his quad started running
poorly. Cameron stopped to see if his pit crew
could figure out what was going on and fix the
problem but unfortunately they couldn’t
and he was forced to continue racing with a machine
that refused to take any throttle. Nick took the
lead back but Wesley was coming. With two laps
to go Wesley made the pass for the lead and held
on for the win. Nick rode great and had a solid
second place finish and Allison Howell did the
same for third. Landon Mclendon had quad issues
and forced to retire from the race after the first
lap. Micayla Jenkins finished fourth followed
by Cameron Trimble.
