Morris, PA (6/17/2007)
– With seven rounds of the AMA Pro Motocross series
in the history books, racers and ATV fans made their way
to “The Stampede” at the famous High Point
Raceway. Located just outside of Morgantown, WV, A three
mile journey off the main highway is a quick introduction
to the natural elevation changes of the area. A groomed
race track awaited racers, with a few changes from years
past. The elimination of a few jumps has impacted lap
times with the top three pros breaking the two minute
mark.
While amateurs ran their first Motos, pros hit the
track at noon and 3PM for their designated practice
sessions. A quick pace would be set during the first
practice, but it wouldn’t be until the second
practice that Pat Brown would lay down a 1:56 lap. Jeremy
Lawson put in a solid second fastest lap running a 1:58.

Sunday morning, fans gathered as the pro riders headed
out for the qualifying session. Honda’s Jeremy
Lawson was hard on the gas the second he hit the track
throwing down three solid laps under two minutes. His
third lap would earn him the first gate pick, just a
few hundredths of a second faster than Pat Brown’s
second lap. Justin Bres claimed the fourth gate pick
running a solid two minute lap time.

Joe Byrd grabbing the ATVriders.com Moto One Holeshot
Award |
A consensus around the pits was that it could be anyone’s
weekend to come out on top. As the stampede of four
stroke thumping engines climbed the uphill start, it
was Joe Byrd claiming the ATVriders.com holeshot award.
Yamaha’s Pat Brown applied pressure as Jeremy
Lawson held onto third place. Sage Baker traveled 2800
miles and wasted no time pushing his ATV Four Play into
fourth place.

Shane Hitt |
Shane Hitt got off to a bad start, but started his
charge early. After making a few passes, he would have
to pull off on lap three with a mechanical failure.
Lap three would also plague Sage Baker with a blown
rear shock. The bad luck would move to the front of
the pack when Joe Byrd and Pat Brown would come together
heading into a corner, which left Brown back in third
place with Lawson taking over the second spot behind
Byrd.

While Honda’s Joe Byrd was putting in consistent
1:55 lap times, Lawson was hanging within a second.
Byrd would hang onto the lead and take home the first
Moto win. Pat Brown put a charge on after his mishap,
but decided to slow down and save his energy for the
second Moto. Justin Bres held onto fouth place while
Yamaha’s Chris Tait rounded out the top five.
