ATVA Motocross Nationals
Round #5 - Links
Danville, VA (4/29/2007) – With four rounds of the ATVA Motocross Championship series already in the books, racers and fans packed their bags and headed to Birch Creek Motorsports parts, host of this years round 5. Tucked away in the back country of southern Viginia, the park boasts a top quality 1.75 mile track. The national track consists of natural elevation changes and jumps for all skill levels. Following the finish line, a large triple is reserved for those only brave enough to attempt.

Although a bright sun and slight breeze attempted to dry out the track, a meticulous crew kept the race order flowing while keeping the track in ideal race conditions. A field of nearly 370 racers would hit the track throughout the weekend. While many of the amateurs enjoy watching the great racing on the pro level, they are often oblivious to the spectacular racing they put on in their own classes.

The Pro-Am class was nothing short of exciting as viewers watched Clay Holmes, Brian King and Nick Denoble battle. An additional section reserved for the Pro’s, was also extended into the Pro-Am class.

When the gate dropped for Moto One, it was Clay Holmes claiming the holeshot with Denoble and King hot on his heels. The three Honda riders would push each other to lap times nearing the pro class. Clay Holmes was the first across the finish line when the checkered flag flew. Nick Denoble edged out Brian King for second while Travis Moore and Chris Williams rounded out the top five.

When they rounded the first corner in the second moto, it was Brian King out front. Sitting in second, Holmes pushed King until he found his opportunity to slip by. King held Holmes within reach, but would not be able to make a pass before they crossed the finish line. With Holmes securing the overall win, King would take second while Denoble would round out the podium.

In the Women Pro-Am Ranks, it was Team Joe Byrd Riding School’s Heather Byrd taking the overall win. Her teammate, Adrienne Cooper of Maricopa, AZ would hold on for a second overall with Tammy White rounding out another Honda filled podium. Byrd would go on to comment on how Cooper continues to step it up each week.
